DAY SAILS these start at 0900hrs and finish at 1800hrs and are primarily intended to introduce people to sailing. A skipper and experienced mate are provided and the clients are encouraged to take a full part in all the activities, helming, crewing, navigation etc.

SAFETY: The yacht is fully equipped to the highest standards and currently exceeds the statutory requirements laid down by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency for charter yachts. There are sufficient life jackets, harnesses and other safety equipment for a full crew. Sailing can be dangerous but every precaution is taken to avoid risks, but it is everyone’s duty to ensure their own safety and to avoid putting others at risk at all times. All cruises start with a safety briefing.

FOOD: On day sails you should bring a packed lunch. As these are partly intended to give people an introduction to sailing it is usual to moor for lunch and there is generally a pub close by.

MEMBERSHIP: The boat is part funded by the Civil Service Sports Council and is run by the Channel Sailing Division of the Civil Service Sailing Association. Any member of the CSSC is eligible to join CSSA at no additional subscriptions and completion of the attached Registration Form will serve as application for membership of the CSSA. You can if you wish opt out of this facility.

HEALTH: You need to be in good health both for your own safety, the enjoyment of others, and to satisfy our insurers. We ask you to sign the health declaration. If you suffer from an ailment which you think may affect your ability to go sailing please feel free to contact Colin Smith on Tel. 01329 667859. 07733402571 mobile. Email

CLOTHING: Warm clothing, It is always cooler on the water than ashore so please bring plenty of warm layers. Soft soled deck shoes or similar should be worn or wellies when cold. The hard soled trainers are not suitable. Please ensure they grip in the wet. Please bring your own wet weather gear. It is possible to borrow wet weather gear at Mercury Marina but these are basic coat and trousers.

WEATHER: You should turn up at the boat WHATEVER THE WEATHER! If the weather is bad where you are, it may be much better at Hamble. We have access to some very sheltered waters.

TO FIND THE BOAT: The yacht is moored at Mercury Marina, Post Code SO31 4HQ on the River Hamble berth C25. From M27 JUNCTION 8 follow the signs to HAMBLE. After about 2 miles down Hamble lane, turn left onto Satchell Lane (The Marina is sign-posted). The Marina is on the left after ½ mile. There is ample parking, toilets, small shop, and bar.
