Senate Guest Night – Thursday, 16 November 2017 at 7.00 for 7.30pm

The next Senate Guest Night will be held on Thursday, 16 November 2017 in the Senate Room at 7.00 for 7.30pm.

We are delighted that the guest speaker on this occasion will be John Beattie. John Beattie currently presents the lunchtime news programme on BBC Radio Scotland. Before becoming a broadcaster, he won 25 caps as a Scottish international rugby player, and went on two British Lions tours. He's had various careers, including a spell as a civil engineer who retrained as a chartered accountant, and a stint as chairman of the Scottish Executive's physical activity task force. Apart from that, he has fronted BBC Scotland radio and television programmes on music, rugby, shinty, athletics, highland games, badminton and the Commonwealth games and he still coaches a rugby team every week.

Senate Guest Nights provide an excellent opportunity for members of Senate to introduce guests to the University as well as to meet other colleagues from around the University in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. All members of Senate are very warmly encouraged to come along and to invite personal guests to accompany them, although they are not obliged to do so, as the Senate Guest Night provides a wonderful forum to which to bring guests to the University.

The Ferguson Bequest Committee has generously made a subvention towards Senate Guest Nights again this year. With the assistance of this subvention, the cost of the dinner will be £40 per person, including a drinks reception and wine at dinner.

Those who wish to attend should complete the attached form and return it by 9 November Thursday, 2017. Please note that numbers are limited due to the capacity of the room, so replies will have be taken on a first come first served basis.

Please note that on this occasion the dress code will be business attire.
