University Attorney
Purpose
Purpose:
Provide legal advice on academic, research, business, employment and student issues; provide litigation support; draft and review contracts; and handle other varied duties. The University Attorney is the sole attorney on a fast-growing campus with nearly 33,000 students and over 5,000 employees.
Essential Functions
Function 1:
This position reports to the President, but advises administrators and faculty in all academic and administrative units across campus. The university attorney works closely with the UT System General Counsel, who has overall responsibility for the legal affairs of UT System and its institutions. Consults with subject-matter experts and litigators in the UT System Office of General Counsel and the Texas Attorney General's Office.

Function 2:
The position will involve immediate client contact, especially with University administrators. The university attorney functions as a generalist, providing services in a variety of subject areas, including the law governing employment, contracts, student discipline, university governance, constitutional rights, civil rights, policy development and review, open meetings, privacy, public records, law enforcement, litigation and risk management, tax, tax-exempt financing, public-private partnership

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school; admission to the state bar of Texas; minimum of 3-6 years of experience in employment law, student law and litigation. Requires prior experience analyzing and drafting contracts. Excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to organize time, flexibility and a collegial disposition are essential attributes.
