Veterans Services Advisory Committee – Minutes

Time: 6:30 pm
Attending: Bob Siteman, Dave Sherlock, Gary Whitehouse, Bertha Maloof, Jim Finn, Ted O’Malley, Mike Johns, Jo Miller
Richard Letson attended to introduced self: He is a candidate for BOS. Richard left after introduction.
Topics discussed:
· Minutes from last meeting reviewed and minutes accepted.
· Crossroads District Update: Bob Siteman
o Bob has attended 2 District Board meetings.
o Budget has been set up.
o Teresa Disilva will do the duties of Treasurer.
o Next District board meeting is Tuesday 2/23/12.
o After next meeting will change meetings to quarterly.
o 3rd VSO position has been posted.
o District Director is John Hogan, Mansfield.
o Deputy Director is Mike Johns, Foxboro.
o Veterans District Transportation Grant: Town Planner is working on grant for transportation to Brockton VA.
· Challenge Grant:
o Waiting to hear about the challenge grant which is funds to start up the district. These funds can be used for equipment, office etc.
· War Memorial:
o Mike’s office has received some donations for the Memorial.
o Ongoing discussion for criteria for Memorial.
· Memorial Day Planning:
o American Legion and VFW will take point.
o VFW will lead this year. The organizations do alternating years.
o There will not be a breakfast at the Legion, inadequate participation in past years.
o Snacks and beverages will be after the ceremonies at the American Legion.
o Memorial Day sub-committee:
§ Jim Finn-American Legion
§ Ted O’Malley- VFW
§ Warren Wright- Commander VFW
§ Jo Miller-American Legion
· Removal of inactive VSAC member: Bob Millman
· VSO Update: Mike Johns
o Mike Johns will be away on vacation the week of February 20, 2012. John Hogan will cover while Mike is away.
o The District will do a press release informing communities involved about the district.
o There will be quarterly service reviews done by the four town board.
