The death took place at the Sacred Heart Home, Castlebar, on Tuesday morning of Mr. John Flynn, Quay Road, Newport. A member of an old and respected Newport family, John was very popular with old and young. He was a very keen sportsman and in his younger days was a keen footballer and handballer. He was brother of Paddy Flynn, Miss Jane Flynn and Miss Baby Flynn. His funeral takes place from St. Patrick’s Church, Newport to Kilbride Cemetery to-day (Thursday).

Sudden death of Glenhest Man. Mr. Austin Keane, aged 65, of Cloondaff, Glenhest, Newport, died suddenly while watching television with friends in a Newport public house, on Easter Monday night. He had only returned from England, where he is a male nurse, during the previous weekend. He is survived by a brother and two sisters in the U.S.A. his remains were removed to Glenhest Church, on Monday night and the funeral took place to Glenhest Cemetery yesterday (Wednesday).

His remains were removed to Tiernaur Church and the funeral took place to Killeen Cemetery. He is survived by his sons Jim, John, Tommie and daughter Mary.

Mr. Patrick McLoughlin. It is with deep regret we record the sudden death of Mr. Patrick McLoughlin, at his residence, Sandhill, Tiernaur, on Wednesday. He was husband of the late Mrs. Nora McLoughlin, who died six months ago. Deceased was an old I.R.A. veteran and took a prominent part in the War of Independence. His remains were removed to Tiernaur Church on Thursday. On Saturday Solemn Requiem High Mass was celebrated for the repose of his soul by Rev. M. Moran, C.C., assisted by Very Rev. Canon Walsh, P.P., Kilmeena and Rev. E. McEllin, C.C., Newport. Very Rev. Canon Killeen, P.P., was master of ceremonies. In the choir were Rev. Fr. O’Grady, Dean St. Jarlath’s College, Tuam and Rev. Fr. King, do. The funeral which was large and representative, and bore ample testimony to the high esteem in which he was held, took place to Killeen cemetery. The coffin was draped in the Tricolour and members of Newport Batt. Old I.R.A., under Capt. William O’Malley, formed a guard of honour. A party of F.C.A., under Capt. J. McGreal fired three volleys over the graveside and Pte. Austin Foley sounded the Last Post. Kildare, who died was son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Morgan, Buckagh, Newport. His funeral took place to the community centre, Stillorgan, Co. Dublin, on Saturday. Death of Mulranny Business man. The death took place suddenly at Mulranny yesterday (Wednesday) of Mr. E.T. Sweeney, who was well known in the motoring business for the past half century. A member of an old and respected Achill family, he was proprietor of Sweeney’s Lounge Bar, Mulranny, Sweeney’s Garage, Achill Sound and was Western agent for Merville Ices. He is survived by his two sons, Nial (Achill Sound); Desmond (England) and two married daughters.
Recent Death. Mrs. B. Corcoran, Carrowmore, Newport. It is with deep regret we record the death of Mrs. B. Corcoran, Carrowmore, Newport, which took place at a Galway hospital, on August 15. A member of a well known and respected Tipperary family she had been in failing health for some years. Her remains were removed to St. Patrick’s Church, Newport. The funeral after Requiem High Mass, took place to Kilbride cemetery. Had Newport Connections. Maureen McGovern, aged 13, who was killed ina traffic accident, when out walking her dog, in Chicago, was daughter of Thomas and Margaret McGovern, 3536 North Bosworth, Chicago. Her father is a native of Skirdagh, Newport and is a supervisor of the Chicago Transit Authority. Margaret Smith, 17, cousin of Maureen McGovern was also killed in the crash.
Mr. Paddy Kelly, Newport. It is with deep regret we record the death, which took place suddenly, at his residence, Medlicott St., Newport, of Mr. Paddy Kelly. Deceased, formerly of Treenbeg, was a member of an old and respected family in the parish and his passing is much regretted by his legion of friends. His remains were removed to St. Patrick’s Church, Newport on Thursday evening. On Saturday morning Requiem High Mass was offered for the repose of his soul. After Mass the funeral, which was large and representative of all sections of the community, took place to Burrishoole cemetery. Mrs Catherine Gibbons, Newfield, Mulranny. We deeply regret to record the death at Ratoath Manor, Ratoath, of Mrs. Catherine Gibbons, Newfield, Tiernaur, Mulranny. Deceased who had reached an advanced age, was relict of the late John Gibbons and was a member of one of the leading business families in West Mayo. She was mother of Rev. Her remains were removed to Tiernaur Church on Friday evening and on Saturday morning Requiem High Mass was offered for the repose of her soul, which was attended by a number of priests. After Mass, her funeral, one of the largest seen in the district for some time, took place to Killeen cemetery.

Mulranny Woman Dies. The death took place at the Co. Hospital Castlebar, on Monday evening of Mrs. Mary Alice Moran, wife of Mr. Padhraic Moran M.A., ex. N.T., Mulranny. Her remains were removed to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Mulranny, yesterday (Wednesday) and the funeral takes place after Requiem High Mass, today (Thursday), to Burrishoole cemetery. She was mother of Kevin Moran, B. Agr. Sc., Castlerea; Sergt. Andy Moran, Dublin; Mrs. Sheila Sweeney, N.T., Achill; Miss Theresa Moran, a teacher in Germany; Nurse Dympna Moran, Co. Hospital, Castlebar and Mrs. Duncan, Ballymahon, Co. Longford. She was stepmother of Mr. Fintan Moran, Loughrea and Mrs. Mary Mulchrone, Glenisland.

It is with deep regret we record the death, which took place suddenly at her residence, Knocknageeha, Newport, early on Sunday morning, of Mrs. Sarah Gibbons (nee Cusack), wife of Mr. Patrick Gibbons. The last remaining member of an old and respected Newport family her passing has left a void in the parish and she will be mourned by her legion of friends. Her remains were removed to St. Patrick’s Church, Newport, on Sunday evening. After Solemn Requiem High Mass on Tuesday, the funeral, which was large and representative, took place to Kilbride cemetery. She is survived by her husband Patrick Gibbons, son Patrick Gibbons (jun.); daughters, Mrs Ann Connolly, Lancs., England; Mrs. Celia Wilkinson, Lancs., do.; grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins too numerous to mention.
