OneNote Supplemental Activity

Create a Side Note

Complete Lesson 63 before you complete this activity.

You may want to take notes about some topic while working in another program. You can do so easily by using a side note. A side note is a small OneNote window. You can open a side note by right-clicking the OneNote icon on the taskbar and choosing Open New Side Note. Notes created in a side note are saved in the Side Notes section of the My Notebook folder. Side note pages do not have titles. Instead, some text from the page is shown on the title tab. You can move pages from a side note section to other sections that have related topics.

1.Start Word and open a new blank document. Key two or three lines of text giving facts you can remember about the first four U.S. Presidents.

2.Right-click the OneNote icon on the taskbar. Choose Open New Side Note as shown in the figure below.

3.A side note window will appear on the screen. If Word fills the entire screen, the side note window will appear on top of the Word window. Click the title bar of the side note window and drag it to a convenient location on the screen.

4.Click in the side note window. The Type/Selection Tool button should be selected on the toolbar at the bottom of the window. If not, select it. Key the following note:

General Andrew Jackson fought in the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. He later became the seventh United States President.

5.You can easily tuck the side note away and go back to work in your Word window. Practice hiding and restoring the side note window. Click the Minimize button on the side note window to move it to the taskbar. Click the OneNote button on the taskbar to restore the side note window.

6. Select the Pen button on the toolbar at the bottom of the side note window. Write this note below the text you entered earlier:

Called: Old Hickory

7.Your side note should appear similar to the figure below.
