We are all really enjoying the nice weather this week. I hope you all have a great weekend!

This site will be updated weekly. You can also join Remind 101. The Remind 101 will be texted out when there is achange of schedule or an important event coming up. I will not send out daily homework reminders. Homework for each class will be written on the board. All students need to write this down each day.

New information on the Friday Dress Policy went home in Tuesday's papers. Basically - on Fridays, your child can wear regular uniform clothes or jeans and an HCC shirt. No special color days or uniforms unless it's a "fun day". The next Friday "fun day" will be September 22nd. Your child can bring $1.00 and wear his/her favorite team jersey or cheerleading uniform.

Progress reports go out THIS Thursday, September 14th!

Reading - This week, we will continuereading our first chapter book. The title isManiac Mageeby Jerry Spinelli. Our focus skills will be fact and opinion and main idea. We will be working on these skill throughout the week. We will have a G2 test on these skills Wednesday, September 20th. We will readchapters 12 - 22 this week. The chapters are very short. Your child has his/her own book that can be brought home.
Your child will be givena new vocabulary workshop story with definitions, synonyms and antonyms on Tuesday, September 19th. We will review the vocabulary including definitions, synonyms and antonyms every day. This week,we will have a g1 grade on synonyms/antonyms on Thursday, September 21st. Next week, we will have complete the sentence activity on Tuesday, September 26thfor a g1 grade and on Friday, September 29th, we will have a G2 test on these words.
We will be using Moby Max again this year. We will work on all three reading areas - reading informational, reading stories, and reading skills. We will also work on the languageportion of Moby Max. Your child can practice all skills at home on this site.

STAR test/AR - Information on where your child is in regards to AR tests went home with progress reports. Your child should be at LEAST at 50% in regards to his/her goal and should always be at 85% or above for comprehension. Please encourage your child to read.

When you receive your child's AR note, please look to see what reading level he/she is. He/she should be on at LEAST a 5.0 reading level - since this is the beginning of fifth grade. I'm seeing a good many children at level 3 and 4. If this is your child, please have him/her read more at home. The devices need to be put away and books need to be in hands to increase reading levels. This is a life skill and really needs to be pushed.

English -This week, we will continue in chapter 4. We will be working on descriptive writing. We will also continue to review previously taught skills - nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, and prepositional phrases as well as capitalization and punctuation rules.
Spelling - Our spelling words for this week are: earth, peer, twirl, burnt, smear, further, appear, worthwhile, nerve, pier, squirm, weary, alert, murmur, thirsty, reverse, worship, career, research, volunteer, yearn, engineer, interpret, dreary, and external.
The spelling assignments for the week are: Monday- 3 x each, Tuesday- spelling worksheet,Wednesday- spelling 10 sentences. Each sentence MUST have a minimum of seven words. On Thursday, September 21st, we will have our regular spelling test, and on Friday, September 22nd, we will have a dictation test.
