RESPONSIBLE TO: Technical Co-ordinator / Senior Caretaker
MAIN PURPOSE OF POST: To provide an efficient and effective caretaking service to the Winding Wheel, Pomegranate Theatre, Hasland Village Hall, Assembly Rooms and any other Council venues , ensuring the security, supervision and general appearance of the building are maintained in accordance with the required standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The postholder must, at all times, carry out their duties and responsibilities to comply with Borough Council policies and procedures.
1. Cleaning buildings, toilets, furniture etc.
2. Maintaining tidy conditions of grounds.
3. Preparing and clearing the premises for various functions and setting out chairs, tables, staging, and equipment as required.
4. Reporting any damage or loss immediately to the Technical Co-ordinator or representative.
5. Reporting on signs of defects or need to repair building
6. Supervision and maintenance of heating systems where appropriate
7. Mending fuses and replacing electric lamps as required
8. Carrying out minor repairs as necessary
9. Joint responsibility for keys and for unlocking and locking of doors when premises are used
10. Checking that all doors which provide means of escape from the premises are unlocked and can be opened easily and immediately from within.
11. Check Exit signs are satisfactorily and lit where appropriate
12. Check external passages are illuminated

13. Check emergency lighting is in working order
14. Check fire fighting equipment is readily available for use
15. Act as commissionaire or attendant as and when required
16. Maintain inventory of equipment and materials and to prepare requisition orders for authorisation, for replacement of such goods/materials as required.
17To liaise with hirer or their agent as directed / so required
18. Switch alarm systems on and off, and provide security presence during functions
19.To be fully conversant with the Council’s, Department’s and Section’s Health and Safety Policy, and in respect of such be fully aware of the personal responsibilities thereto attached
- To comply with all systems and procedures laid down, and assist in the amendment/introduction of any new procedures laid down, as maybe required.
- To be aware of, and implement, the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
To undertake any other duties which are similar in level of responsibility.
SPECIAL FEATURES OF POST
To work shifts as required, to suit the operation of the organisation, to include evenings, weekends, bank holidays, sickness and holiday cover. May be required to work on a split shift to satisfy organisation demands.
To work as requested from/at any premise within the organisation/department.
Required to have own transport, for travelling between various sites as and when directed.
This position entails heavy lifting.
