Review of Trigonometry

Read Appendix B (Trigonometric Definitions and Identities) in the textbook and work the following problems:

3. (15 points) The ground has a slope with a vertical angle of +3º35’42”. You wish to stake out (mark on the ground) a location for a new manhole that is shown on the project plans (blue print) as 150.00 feet from existing MH#231. Answer the following:

a) What type of distance is the 150 ft (slope, horizontal, vertical, etc.)?

b) When ordering the pipe that will be placed between the two manholes, what is the required pipe length?

4. (15 points) We need to measure the height of the church steeple shown in the diagram below. A horizontal distance has been measured out from the building and the two vertical angles have been measured as shown below. How high is the church steeple (distance AC in the diagram below)?

5. (5 points + 5 points) Convert the following angles to decimal values: 37° 32’ 50”; 109° 15’ 40”
