ULTIMATE ACOUSTICS WITH UNCOMPROMISING DECOR SELECTION
EGGER and Akustik+ present decorative and acoustically effective solutions.
The Tyrolean wood-based material manufacturer EGGER is presenting itself as a full-range supplier for furniture and interior design at ORGATEC 2012 in Cologne. Taking centre stage are the topics of sound absorption, fire protection and design.
Acoustically effective laminate bonded boards in non-combustible A2 are new to the EGGER acoustics product range. These are available with DIN EN 13501-1 certification in A2-s1, d0 from quantities of 1 unit. Selected perforations are possible as well as slotting and individual drilling patterns.
Custom ACOUSTIC solutions
Acoustically effective products from EGGER are generally used in four areas of application:
· Wall panelling, used as fixed wall structures or acoustically effective partition walls in open-plan offices
· Fixed, acoustically effective ceiling systems
· Furniture components, for example in front panels, rear panels and carcass sides
· Ceiling panels or individually prefabricated system components, so-called baffles.
In order to consistently offer customised solutions for a wide variety of different applications, EGGER has developed numerous different perforations and slotting patterns. This allows precisely coordinated absorption properties to be combined with individual and aesthetic requirements. Certain types of coreboards and virtually all conceivable surfaces can be combined with perforations or slotting. And EGGER goes further, in cooperation with its partners Akustik+, Bartenbach Lichtlabor and Digital Elektronik, EGGER has developed a lighting and acoustics concept. The LED auriLUX with high-power LEDs, meets the highest requirements in terms of design and functionality.
ACOUSTICALLY EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS WITH ALL ZOOM DECORS
EGGER acoustically effective products are available in all ZOOM decors. More than 270 decors in the ZOOM collection are organised into twelve colour and decor worlds. The spectrum includes natural and uni colours, intensive uni colours, classic-modern, authentic and exotic woods, as well as creative types of wood for used look decors. This selection is complemented by stone, mineral and metal reproductions
as well as textile and leather decors. Ten decors can be supplied directly from stock at a quantity of 1 unit or more. EGGER offers decor recommendations under www.egger.com/zoom. The decor and material combinations extend to specialty products such as acoustic boards. This makes it easier for architects and tradespeople to choose the right selection and combination of suitable materials.
In decor and material combinations, MFC, MDF, laminates and EUROLIGHT lightweight boards as well as edging match.
In keeping with the motto “Everything from a Single Source”, EGGER is the only wood-based material manufacturer to produce edging in-house. For operations processing the materials, this has the advantage that all products are coordinated. For an architect this means that the room looks exactly how it was planned. As soon as new decors come to market, EGGER is able to supply the matching edging. The matched decor and edging are available quickly in quantities of 1 unit and up.
The ZOOM collection includes melamine edging with and without hot melt adhesive as well as EGGER ABS security edging. The latter is a thermoplastic edging that meets the highest requirements in processing and also in terms of durability. ABS and melamine edging are suitable for combinations with decorative wood-based materials in terms of colour, grain, surface texture and gloss level.

Egger SUPPORTS Acoustics Competence Centre And lighting competence centre
Room acoustics plays a key role in the design of modern offices, and therefore plays an important role at ORGATEC 2012. In the central exhibition space in hall 10.1., the knowledge point “Understanding acoustics?!” explains the basic technical terms of room acoustics. Dr. Christian Nocke of Akustikbüro Oldenburg, in cooperation with EGGER, is presenting acoustically effective solutions for public and commercial buildings. Dr. Nocke is a renowned expert in the field of room and building acoustics,
and has been consulted by EGGER in the course of product development for many years.
EGGER also supports the knowledge point “Lighting Competence Centre” at Orgatec. This is the central place of contact for industry visitors interested in the topic of “Office Lighting”. The exhibition space was planned by Bartenbach Lichtlabor in Aldrans (AT). It is all about innovations in the areas of daylight, LEDs, light & wellbeing as well as light & materials. EGGER supports the exhibition space with woodbased materials. Locally, visitors can also experience the light and acoustic concept auriLUX LED, which was developed by Bartenbach Lichtlabor in cooperation with Akustik+ and EGGER.

EGGER COMBINES FIRE PROTECTION WITH DECORS AND ACOUSTICS
Non-combustible A2-classified laminate bonded boards in select decors combine functionality and design.
EGGER is expanding its decor and material combinations with non-combustible, decorative finishing boards in the A2 version. A1 mineral fibre boards form the basis, laminated with EGGER micro-laminate on the front and a balancer paper on the reverse side. The A2 laminate bonded boards meet the applicable fire protection requirements for public and commercial buildings. As part of the ZOOM collection, they are available in six different decors which also allows them to be used as design elements by architects and fabricators.
Fire protection in public and commercial buildings such as schools, hotels, high-rises and hospitals is a complex issue, so that choosing the safest products is an important consideration for every builder. Safety is achieved by using non-combustible materials. These are often composite materials where the individual components are certified, but no certificate is available for the finished composite material itself. According to the European DIN EN 13501-1 standard (reaction to fire), building authority requirements for non-combustible construction products specify that the construction products must comply with class A1 or A2-s1, d0. A1 and A2 classifies the reaction to fire.
SIX DECORS IN MATCHING COLOURS, IN STOCK FROM QUANTITIES OF 1 UNIT
“In cooperation with our partner Akustik+, we are offering non-combustible, laminate joining elements in class A2-s1, d0 certified according to DIN EN 13501-1,” says Michael Beckmann, Product Manager Furniture and Interior Design at EGGER. The non-combustible A1 mineral fibre board forms the core of the joining element, and is laminated with EGGER micro-laminate on both sides. Since the colour of the coreboard is similar to wood, edge coating is not necessary.
A2 laminate bonded boards are available from stock in three thickness (12, 16 and 18 mm (0.47”, 0.63” and 0.71”)) and in the formats of 2,800 or 2,300 x 1,260 mm (or 625 mm as the half format) (110.24” or 90.55” x 49.61” (or 24.61” as the half format)) in quantities of 1 unit and up (half format in pairs). The programme includes six decors in the current ZOOM collection: Basic White, Light Grey, Light Lakeland Acacia, Light Ferrara Oak, Tobacco Aida Walnut and Natural Tauern Beech.
A2 JOINING ELEMENTS ALSO AVAILABLE AS ACOUSTICALLY EFFECTIVE BOARDS
In public buildings in particular, architects increasingly require the combination of non-combustible and acoustically effective materials. This is why A2 laminate bonded boards from EGGER are available in quantities of 1 unit and up as acoustically effective elements as well – also certified in A2-s1, d0 according to DIN EN 13501-1. Select perforations are possible as well as slotting and individual drilling patterns.
NEW AKUSTIK+ PRODUCTION SITE
Due to growing demand, the EGGER cooperation partner Akustik+ from Wächtersbach recently commissioned a new plant in Behringen, located in near Eisenach (DE). A building with a production area of 8,000 m2 (86,111 square feet) was erected on a property of 38,000 m2 (409,029 square feet). Akustik+ can now significantly increase its capacity for acoustically effective products. This is also where the non-combustible A2 laminate bonded boards are produced and upgraded for acoustic effectiveness. “With Akustik+, we have a strong partner by our side who is continuing to develop the business for acoustically effective products and composite boards,” says Michael Beckmann, EGGER Product Manager Furniture and Interior Design. A total of EUR 10 million was invested in buildings and production work centres at the new plant.

HIGH TAUNUS SCHOOL BENEFITS FROM ACOUSTIC PANELS
EGGER provides acoustic solutions for the Philipp-Reis School in Friedrichsdorf.
The cornerstone for the comprehensive school was laid in 2010. The new building was commissioned at the beginning of the 2012 school year. Over 1,000 square metres (10,750 square feet) of ProAcoustic elements on the walls and 135 acoustically effective suspended ceiling panels – so-called baffles – were installed. The total acoustically effective ceiling area is 2,700 m2 (29,063 square feet).
The sound level in conventional classrooms ranges from 65 dB(A) to 75 db(A), and can even reach 95 dB(A) in extreme situations. A limit of 55 dB(A) is recommended for mental activities, e.g. in offices (VDI 2058 Sheet 3). When the sound level is too high, the words of the teacher are often lost in the noise or disregarded entirely. This topic has been discussed at length in Germany for some time. Student learning as well as stress and the health of teachers take centre stage in numerous studies. As a result, the DIN 18041 standard on “Acoustic Quality in Small and Medium Sized Rooms” was revised in 2004, and the recommended reverberation values were decreased significantly.
For the Philipp-Reis School – named after the inventor of the telephone - optimum acoustic effectiveness of the wall and ceiling panelling was an important consideration. The High Taunus district and the “freien architekten bda, stuttgart” have created a model for future school buildings in the city of nearly 26,000 residents north of Bad Homburg.
WALL AND CEILING PANELLING IN A2 QUALITY
ProAcoustic in A2 quality (fire classification for public buildings), produced by the EGGER partner Akustik+, was used for the wall panelling with slotted acoustically effective elements. The wall panelling was realised in ProAcoustic Linear Deluxe 16, veneered in genuine oak, and in the H1334 ST9 Ferrara Oak Natural decor. ProAcoustic with the 16/16/5 perforation pattern, veneered in genuine oak, was used for the 2,700 square metres (29,063 square feet) of baffles on the ceilings.
In principle, the entire EGGER ZOOM collection is available for projects involving acoustics. Coatings from the RAL or NCS colour palette as well as chipboard veneered with genuine wood can also be created in cooperation with the EGGER partner Akustik+.

IMPROVED ACOUSTICS HELPS WITH EVENTS
The Brockenhaus art nouveau villa in Hanau built in 1908 serves as a venue for conventions, conferences and festivals. Recently the acoustics of the high-ceilinged rooms were improved with the installation of EGGER ProAcoustic panels with custom perforations.
Used as an events venue the high-ceilinged rooms finished in stucco and parquet flooring were redesigned to improve the acoustics: ProAcoustic panelling from EGGER with a floral pattern now graces the walls and ensures good room acoustics.
Historical buildings have a unique flair thanks to their high-ceilinged rooms. However, large room volumes lead to long reverberation times so that every syllable that is spoken and every sound that is played reverberates in multiples of its duration. This makes it harder to understand conversations and impairs the listening pleasure of music. In the search for a solution to improve room acoustics, the planners for the Brockenhaus conversion found the right partners in EGGER and Akustik+. Prior to the required acoustic optimisation, the reverberation time was 3.1 seconds.
