There are endless benefits when you take time to give to others.

This Summer I challenge you to Make a Difference, Big or Small.

Below is a list of Summer Service Project Ideas but you are welcome to come up with one of YOUR OWN. Please document your project in a way that you can share it with your class when we return to school in the Fall. Here are some documentation ideas but feel free to create your OWN.

Take Pictures. Create a Poster. Power Point. Brochure. Scrapbook. Written Report. Journal. Video.

Service Project Ideas:

1.  Collect camp items for Camp Dream Catcher, a program for children whose lives have been affected by HIV. They are local and will pick up items. http://campdreamcatcher.org/how-to-help/wish-list/

2.  Donate crafts to a local children’s hospital.

3.  Decorate placemats for Meals on Wheels http://www.mowaa.org/

4.  Make a no-sew blanket for Project Linus http://www.projectlinus.org/

5.  Organize a food drive in your neighborhood or church.

6.  Volunteer your time and pack some boxes at Cradles to Crayons. https://www.cradlestocrayons.org/

7.  Host a garage sale, lemonade stand or backyard carnival for your favorite charity. Maybe www.Rednoseday.org

8.  Donate gently used board games, toys or decks of cards to a shelter or daycare.

9.  Write a letter to an elected official about a cause you believe in.

10.  Collect DVDs or video games to donate to a children’s hospital or shelter.

11.  Babysit a neighbor’s dog or cat for free while they are away at work or vacation.

12.  Volunteer to read stories or teach a skill (math, art, computers) to younger friends, cousins or neighbors.

13.  Weed your neighbor’s flower beds or a local park’s.

14.  Water a neighbor’s garden.

15.  Plant flowers or garden veggies and share them with neighbors or someone in need of a “pick me up.”

18.  Donate your old books to an orthodontist or pediatrician’s waiting room.

19.  Buy a kit from http://kidknits.org/ and learn to knit a hat or scarf. Then donate your creation to a shelter.

20.  Make a “new in town” guide for a child who may be new to the area. Highlight parks, draw maps or fun places and write reviews for local restaurants or shops.

21.  Challenge yourself to complete a “Random Act of Kindness” each week. Wash a car, hold open a door, give flowers to a friend, etc.

23.  Write a postcard or letter to a grandparent or relative.

24.  Write and illustrate a story and read it to a family member.

25.  Create a play that you can perform for others.

26.  Teach a grandparent or older adult relative how to use technology (send a text, search Google, send an email, etc.).
