Senior Study Supervisor
Salary/Grade: Grade 7 £20,023 - £23,677 (FTE £23,398 - £27,668)
Hours: 37 hours per week - term time only 7.15am – 3.15pm
Reportingto: Assistant Headteacher
Responsible for: Arranging cover for teaching staff both in advance and in an emergency, supervising classes to cover the absence of a teacher and to invigilate examinations as required.
Key Responsibilities
- To manage day to day cover for absent staff, booking supply teachers when necessary.
- To supervise, train and monitor Study Supervisors, ensuring they are effective and efficient in role.
- To provide robust performance management for Study Supervisors
- To deploy the cover team (including daily and long term supply staff) effectively to ensure best value for money, inducting new supply staff on their first visit to the school.
- To liaise with Supply Agencies to arrange for long term supply staff in consultation with the Curriculum Leader and Senior Line Manager.
- To work closely with the Assistant Headteacher to manage and monitor the supply budget.
- To supervise whole classes, individuals or groups of students in absence of a teacher, maintaining good order and keeping students on task.
- To prepare the learning environment and assist students with the organization and use of materials and resources.
- To assist students to access the curriculum by helping them with their literacy/ numeracy/ ITC skills and developing their understanding of classroom activities.
- To ensure the schools agreed behavior management procedures are adhered to and that rewards and sanctions are given appropriately.
- To record attendance, ensure the lesson begins promptly and that students are dismissed at the appropriate time in accordance with school policy.
- To collect any work completed after the lesson and return to an agreed person/ place.
- To provide objective and accurate feedback to teachers on the conduct of the lesson and the behavior of the students.
- To invigilate examinations as required.
- To provide classroom support or to assist with other activities around the school, including administrative duties, when no cover, supervision or invigilation is required.
Promotion of the School in the wider community
- Support the aims, values, mission and ethos of the school and participate in a team approach to all aspects of school life.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings and INSET days as required, and identify areas of personal practice and experience to develop.
- Take appropriate responsibility for safeguarding and children’s welfare and to be aware of confidential issues linked to home/child/teacher/school and keep confidences appropriately.
- Be aware of health and safety issues and act in accordance with the school’s Health and Safety Policy

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Desirable
QualificationsA good level of educationincluding GCSE Grade C in English and Maths or equivalent
Experience
Previous experience of working with/ guiding the learning of young people
Administrative experience within a school or office, including use of common IT packages (Word, Excel)
Skills
Ability to use own judgment to resolve situations.
Ability to use initiative and work independently
Interpersonal & Communication Skills
Ability to engage with children and to effectively control a classroom.
Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively to students, through good written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work well as a member of a team
Responsibility for supervision
To plan and prioritise the work of the Study Supervisors and supervise them in line with the agreed Performance Management framework / Evidence of further education, at NVQ 3 or equivalent level
