RDES Physical Education - 2nd Grading Period

RDES Physical Education 2nd Nine Weeks 2012-2013

We have been working on learning basketball skills, practicing the elements of dance, and activities with a parachute. We also discussed personal and school safety, personal hygiene, and anger management. This year I have also had students spend time each class period working on their manipulative skills. Students have been practicing their dribbling, passing, rolling a ball, striking an object with a racquet, throwing and catching, to name just a few of the skills.

The student’s session are very vigorous, and fast paced. They do quite a bit of exercising and running in the gym, they get the benefit of my military training, and we spend the majority of our time on skill development.

To let you know that there are three areas that affect grading: Skill, Knowledge, and Attitude/Effort. 1st and 2nd Graders are developing a basic comprehension and demonstration of knowledge and skill, whereas the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Graders display a more in-depth understanding of content knowledge and improved skill demonstration.

Here are some of the things that we have completed:

Fitness running

Basketball skills:

1. Dribbling2. Chest pass

3. Bounce pass4. Shooting a ball

5. Passing to an open teammate

  • Personal Safety; Personal Hygiene; Anger Management
  • Here are some other goals that I strive to teach/ mentor/ model for your students.

1. Participation

2. Building self-confidence

3. Seeking new opportunities

4. Trying your best

5. Students display a willingness to work toward improving their health, and being prepared for class.
