Consultant - Advisory services / Capital Projects and Infrastructure (UK team) Jun/12 – Present

Summary:Working with mainly a UK team comprising of project finance specialists & engineers, where we act as advisor for mega projects by adopting a Review, Design, Apply and Monitor framework to improve capital projects performance at any stage of their lifecycle mainly in the Energy, Infrastructure, Real estate, Healthcare, Education & transportation sectors.

Major projects worked on:

Major Oil and Gas Contractor and Marine Services Provider, KSA – Worked with a UK PwC firm engagement leader seconded to the ME and a USA PwC firm Manager

  • Performed a high level review of key financial information to indentify reasons behind financial losses
  • Performed a high level review for two Half-Billion Dollar poorly performing projects in addition to analysing their contract estimation costs
  • Led meetings with client upper management staff in order to get a better grasp of the processes and operational norms the company is following, and finding opportunities to ameliorate them

Major Oil and Gas Producer, Qatar – Worked with a USA PwC firm expert Partner and UK PwC firm Managers

  • Undertook a high level review of the construction status and likely completion date for a 2.5 Billion dollar healthcare project.
  • Undertook a broad assessment of the robustness and reasonableness of the Contractor’s current Programme/recovery plan.
  • Contributed in performing a high level delay/extension of time investigation, in addition to a review of the quantum of the Contractor’s delay related claims.

Major Oil and Gas producer, UAE

  • Contributed in performing a strategic project risk assessment for a portfolio of Oil and Gas projects against a range of different business and project level criteria using a project risk assessment framework, tailored to the projects type and associated risks.
  • Developed a projects audit universe/heat map, showing the respective risk ratings of each of the projects, which will be underpinned by detailed risk profiles for each project.

Major Qatar Developer, Qatar - Worked with a UK PwC firm Senior Manager seconded to the ME

  • Contributed in developing procedural manuals for the Capital Projects Directorate addressing the development of physical assets from planning to handover (overall project control levels)

Major Education Governmental Entity, UAE - worked with a UK PwC firm Director seconded to the ME

  • Reviewed the delivery model for a 10-year portfolio consisting of 100+ construction projects worth 2.3B$ and recommended better delivery strategy
  • Performed a SWOT analysis for the portfolio delivery strategy and identified required improvements
  • Developed key performance indicators ( KPIs) to achieve better projects governance

Major Rigs owner and operator, ME

  • Undertook a review for a major offshore rig under refurbishment suffering budget and time overrun
  • Conducted high level analysis of the project schedule to establish and identifies delays and their root causes
  • Conducted a high level analysis of the project costs to establish the primary drivers of cost increases and their impact on the profitability of the project
  • Provided recommendations and improvements to increase the likely hood of delivering future projects successfully

Major Oil & Gas Vessels/Rigs builder and energy service provider, Dubai, UAE -worked with an Australian Senior Manager previously worked for KPMG Australia

  • Performed a review of 14 projects consisting ofOilgas vessels carriers under construction and rigs under refurbishment
  • Identified critical clauses in the contracts and assessed their impact on the project performance
  • Analyzed in details the projects performance and estimated the expected profit margin for each project, this helped the company determine its projected cash flow and a feasible financial strategy with its banks

Major Contractor, Abu Dhabi, UAE -Worked with a USA PwC firm expert Partner

  • Provided Dispute advisory services for a 1B$ project in relation to claims submitted by the contractor to the project owner.
  • Reviewed project documentation (claims, project plan, contract, progress reports, schedules, cost reports and correspondence) and conducted interviews with key personnel to establish the key events and issues that impacted the performance of the project.
  • Built high level chronology of the project events
  • Performed a detailed schedule delay analysis and identified the as-built critical path with its respective delay events

  • Critique the approach to establish time and cost elements of the claim
  • Assess the extent to which claims are adequately supported/evidenced
  • Assess the relevance of the events on which the claim is based

Project Engineer Jun/11 - Jun/12

  • Managerial position: Managed and supervised quality control and tasks done by subcontractors according to a design built schedule on Jeddah Cornish Development, a multi hundred million dollar project owned by Jeddah municipality
  • Bidding: analyzed bids submitted by subcontractors according to financial and manpower basis
  • Procurement: Developed direct relations with existing and new suppliers based on trust and commitment

American University of Beirut Beirut, Lebanon

Research assistant Nov/10 - Feb/10 & May/11 - Aug/11

  • Research: Studied and analyzed the design of drilled shafts in soft rocks with their corresponding skin friction capacity, end bearing capacity, and total axial capacity, from a safety factor and reliability index perspective
  • Monte Carlo Simulation: Performed one million realizations to evaluate the capacity of drilled shafts based on a predetermined mean and standard deviation for the UCS and RQD of the soil

Founder and president 2008 - 2011

  • Leadership: Established a professional tutoring network for AUB students. The network consists of 56 tutors covering 76 major courses offered in AUB (Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, Economics)
  • Marketing: Performed a market study for the tutoring network business in AUB. Launched a smart and original On and Off-campus advertising campaign that resulted in acquiring most of the tutoring market share
  • Communication: Being in charge for the network, my daily responsibilities include allocating tutors to students, bringing new business, staying in touch with all parties and handling all financial transactions. This required strong time management, firm commitment and a great ability to work under pressure
