Skydiving! All you need to know

What is a Tandem Skydive?

If you decide to undertake a tandem skydive you will initially undertake a ground training programme of 20 minutes. This is followed by a 15 minute climb in a turbine aircraft to an altitude of around 13,000 feet, followed by 40 – 60 seconds in freefall and a five minute canopy ride. Throughout the whole skydive you are attached to your instructor by harness.

Where and when does it take place?

Sunday 22nd May 2016. The skydive is at Netheravon Airfield camp, Netheravon, Salisbury Wiltshire SP4 9SF www.netheravon.com tel 01980 628250. Should you be unable to make this date contact Jill.

How much money do I need to raise?

The minimum sponsorship you are asked to raise is £400.00. An initial £75.00 deposit is payable to guarantee your place and this can either be reimbursed to you after the jump or taken as part of your £400 sponsorship. The full amount must be raised before you complete your jump with it paid in to the hospice within one month of completing the jump.

What are the age limits?

The minimum age is 16. Persons aged 16-17 must obtain written parental consent on the membership agreement form (enclosed) and a parent must be a witness on their medical declaration form (enclosed).

Those wishing to carry out a tandem parachute jump over the age of 60 will be assessed on the day by a tandem instructor.

Aged 18 – 39 years please read the notes for parachutists on the medical declaration form.

Aged 40+ you must see your Doctor and have the medical form signed and stamped.

Please note medical certificates if applicable MUST be brought on the day, please do not post in advance. No other form of medical certificate is acceptable (e.g letter or pilots medical) Depending upon your Doctor you may be charged for the completion of the medical form. Please keep a copy yourself and forward a copy to Jill West prior to the event.

Are there weight restrictions?

The maximum weight is 16 stone and weight must be in proportion to height.

What happens on the day?

Please be prepared to spend the whole day at the parachute centre. You will be given an arrival time prior to the day. Please arrive promptly and report to the parachute centre reception.

After registration you will be called for your training session which lasts about 20 minutes. Then you wait to be called to meet your instructor and prepare for the flight, before taking off and completing the skydive.

Please be aware that changing weather conditions and amount of jumpers can cause delays and whilst every effort is made to get you in the air as soon as possible it can mean a lot of waiting around.

There is a small café on sight and plenty of seating areas. You can take your own food. The café serves hot meals and drinks and is cash only.

Can I bring family and friends?

Although this is a military airfield the MOD does allow spectators. Children must be accompanied by adult and supervised at all times. Dogs are not allowed.

Smoking is not permitted within the parachute centre.

Alcohol consumption is forbidden during the parachute programme and any persons under the influence of alcohol will be unable to take part in the parachute jump.

What should I wear?

Jeans, tracksuit, leggings or comfortable sports clothing with training shoes, No boots or shoes with hooks. You may want to bring gloves. We do suggest something bright so friends and family can spot you as you come into land.

What identification will I need to bring with me?

This is a military camp and adults must bring photo ID. A passport or photo driving licence is ideal. Similarly, if you invite any spectators, they must also possess photo ID. A reasonable number of children (15 yrs and under) can be brought in addition to the adults. Please understand that these rules are made by the Military Guard Service and are not negotiable on the day. If you are denied access to the camp due to an infringement of any of the above regulations you may have to rebook.

What happens if the weather is unsuitable?

Unfortunately we have no control over the weather, should the forecast be unsuitable for skydiving then a mutually suitable alternative date will be arranged for you to jump.

Can I have my skydive filmed?

Yes! Your skydive can be filmed and you can book this on the day (around £125 which includes DVD of your jump and over 100 still photographs on disc payable on the day)
