Angela Cristini, Claudia Esker, Lori Yanowitz and Elizabeth Brank provided an overview of the services that the Foundation can be provided to faculty and students thru grants and other forms of funding. If a faculty member needs assistance in the writing, development or sourcing of a grant, please contact them. Deadlines for requests are October 3, 2016 and February 2017. Student scholarships are also available ranging from $250 to $25,000.

Fred Newman of the Center for Student Success advised that all Fall Freshmen will have holds and the center will provide advisement. New transfer students will also have holds. There will also be a Major/Minor Fair on October 5th. Fred also urged faculty to use Connect. Registration for Spring 2017 and Winter 2017 begins on October 30th. November 18th is the deadline for course withdrawal. If you want your office hours changed on Connect, contact Tracey Bender.

The following faculty presented their sabbatical requests:

Michael Edelstein – Environmental Turbulence - Requesting full year sabbatical

Marta Vides – Restorative/Therapeutic Justice – Requesting full year sabbatical

James Morley – Create a Textbook Brill Reader on Phenomenological Psychology – Requesting one semester.

Shaziela Ishak – Children/Adults Dealing with Perception/Action/Entrapment

Leah Warner – Integrating Intersectionality/Social Identities/Structure

The unit unanimously supported each of the sabbatical requests.

Dean Lorenz reminded faculty additional travel money and additional funding from Sub-Saharan grant ($2500)

The TLTR grant deadline is the 3rd week of November.

A discussion was continued on the role of Social Science Inquiry versus Social Issues. Social Science Inquiry would replace Social Issues and History of Social Thought would also remain in the core. If Intro to Paychology, Sociology, Law & Society, Social Context of Education or Social Work became the 3rd core requirement, it eliminates the Sustainability core requirement.

A vote was held on the Social Science Inquiry course description.
