JOB DESCRIPTION: Marketing Officer

As part of the wider marketing team, to implement the Charity’s marketing strategy to make Heart Research UK become a household name. To advance our brand, profile and reputation through delivery of a range of marketing activities including communications, printedmaterials, campaigns, events and promotional activity.

General

  • Working with digital to ensure comms are integrated with other media
  • Creating and developingnew innovative ways to communicate the charity’s key messages to target audiences
  • Proofreading, copy writing, editing copy and information collection
  • Contributing to development and implementing marketing plans
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of all marketing activity
  • Ensuring all marketing activities give good ROI
  • Gathering information on competitors

Campaigns

  • Creating, planning and developing integrated marketing campaigns within timescales
  • Database segmentation/analysis
  • Working with depts to give a wide range of campaigns

PR

  • Writing and issuing press releases
  • Press relations
  • Organising press conferences
  • Searching out information for PR

Promotion

  • Development of display materials
  • Preparing, planning and project managing the publication of all publicity material
  • Writing and producing marketing materials (brochures, posters, flyers etc)
  • Writing and managing leaflet design
  • Development and sourcing of merchandise
  • Liaison with printers

Advertising

  • Research best opportunities for good ROI
  • Advertising copy design and placement
  • Liaison with the advertising agencies and designers

Events

  • Organisation of events including photo opportunities
  • Coordinating the Charity’s presence at events
  • Representing and promoting the Charity at events
  • Providing market analysis post event
  • Managing the supply of literature to departments and collating and dispatching literature and other display materials
  • Ensuring prompt follow-up by appropriate team members of enquiries/ leads

Other

  • Preparing PowerPoint presentations
  • Supporting digital in the event of sickness

PERSON SPECIFICATION: Marketing Officer

Required

Degree in marketing or an equivalent professional qualification in marketing /English / journalism or a related field

Previous experience in a similar marketing role

Strong and confident communicator

Excellent copywriting skills and experience

Ability to adapt copy to different audiences

Design experience including working with agencies

A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

Understanding of legal issues involved with the creation of marketing materials

Knowledge of Data Protection law and issues

Experience of writing a variety of content for differing audiences

Understanding of organisational identity and branding issues

Research skills with the ability to produce a range of engaging content on topics of interest to audiences

Photo editing skills

Knowledge of marketing or fundraising databases

Development and implementation of campaigns

Skills and ability to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget

Working knowledge of ROI and budgets

Experience with event organisation, promotion and execution

Evaluation and reporting on all activities

To be able to work on multiple project streams and managing conflicting priorities

High level of IT skills

Desirable

Experience in the charity sector

Experience of working in a busy, demanding marketing team

Ability to write information on complex and technical issues in a way that is clear, easy to understand, accessible and engaging
