THE HENRY AND MADELINE FISCHER AWARD
The Henry and Madeline Fischer Award is presented annually to a member of the Faculty who is judged by the graduating seniors of the School of Engineering as “Teacher of the Year”. The recipient demonstrates teaching excellence, inspires and motivates students to rise to their best, and leaves them with a lasting and gratifying memory of a special teacher and a profound intellectual experience.
THE GERALD R. GILL DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
The annual Gerald R. Gill Distinguished Service Award was named after historian Gerald Gill, as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the Africana Center. The award is given to faculty or staff whose achievements in the classroom, community, and programming in their departments, organizations, and or offices exemplifies a commitment to enriching the lives of students, faculty and staff. This individual’s work with and contributions to people of African descent in the Tufts University Community demonstrates an effort to create a collegiate environment where the contributions of people of African descent are not only recognized, but also celebrated in a diverse approach to learning (both inside and outside of the classroom environment).
The recipient has served the greater community by motivating and inspiring community members, as well as providing effective leadership, serving as a role model and encourage members of the community to apply and develop leadership skills in accomplishing both long and short-term goals. The recipient has worked toward supporting and encouraging Tufts University community members to build coalitions, to further individual and communal endeavors inside and outside the classroom and has attached importance to celebrating the contributions of people of African descent in his/her work. Finally, the recipient has worked with individuals on programs to enhance the knowledge and historical awareness of the experiences and lives of people of African descent.
THE LERMAN-NEUBAUER PRIZE
The Lerman-Neubauer Prize for Outstanding Teaching and Advising is awarded annually to a faculty member judged by graduating seniors as an individual who had a profound impact on them intellectually, both in and out of the classroom. Seniors who have experienced four years at Tufts have demonstrated mature judgment in evaluating those Faculty members they have found most influential in shaping minds on the campus.
LILLIAN AND JOSEPH LEIBNER AWARD
The Lillian and Joseph Leibner Award for Excellence in Teaching and Advising of Students is presented annually to a member of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences who is recommended by both Faculty colleagues and students for the outstanding instruction and guidance of Tufts University students. The Award was established and a fund endowed in perpetuity for this purpose in the names of Lillian and Joseph Leibner by members of their family, many of whom are loyal sons and daughters of Tufts.
UNDERGRADUATE INITIATIVE IN TEACHING AWARD
The Undergraduate Initiative in Teaching Award is presented to junior, full-time Faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and advising; concern for students' academic and personal growth; and the ability to convey the passion and enthusiasm for their field of study.

ADVISING – School of Engineering
The Seymour Simches Award for Distinguished Teaching and Advising is presented to senior members of the faculty of the School of Engineering in acknowledgement of a lifetime of outstanding teaching and advising, and for representing the highest standards of the profession.
