RMS PTO MEETING
October 3, 2014 RMS Auditorium
Meeting Called To Order by: Sarah Lempia Time: 9:20 a.m., Roosevelt Auditorium
Present: Katarina Berin, Linda Bones, DeeDee Carr, Judy DeoGracias, Larry Garstki, Agnes Goldstein, Sonia Green, Sarah Lempia, Kari McGrath, Maureen Spielman, Mary Vanker, Tania Wilson.
Executive and Administrative Reports
President’s Report Sarah Lempia
· The September 5th meeting minutes were approved.
· Sarah congratulated Davis Green on winning the 5th spelling bee and Karim Al Zahabi won the 7th grade spelling bee.
· Tuesday, October 7th, will be the 8th grade parent meeting.
· The Hunger Banquet will be on Wednesday, October 8th followed by Feed My Starving Children on Thursday, October 9th.
· The 6th and 8th grade spelling bee will be on October 15th.
· Fall Fun Fest will be on Friday, October 17th.
· Dark and Stormy night will be held on 10/30 in the LLC.
· Walk to school week is next week, the week of October 6th. Walk to School Day is on Wednesday, October 8th.
· Kari requested people give enough time for both Revtrak postings and check requests.
· Per Donna Murray: Please respond to the specific request for inclusions for the Bulldog Bulletin on the 1st and 15th of each month and please do not format documents sent to her.
· PTO will be offering staff Spiritwear again this year.
Treasurer’s Report Linda Bones
· Money is coming in for Fun Lunch.
· The PTO carries a surplus of funds from year to year. Current surplus is approximately $55K and is held in a money market account; $29K is from the previous year. Kari noted the PTO is looking for suitable ways to spend this money.
Superintendent’s Report Ed Condon
· Dr. Condon was not present at this meeting.
Principal’s Report Larry Garstki
· Columbus Day will be an Institute Day for the teachers Friday, October 10th.
· Mary Vanker asked a question about ISATs and the scoring with newer standards. A question was also asked about MAPS testing. Common Core general issues were discussed.
Board Liaisons’ Report Judy Deogracias
· RMS Exterior Project continues after 2 ½ years to be the focus of the school board meeting (9/15/14). Traffic study did not reveal anything new that previous studies had not revealed. There is an urgency to move things forward. Proceeding with Design Review Board. Consensus is plan approved in December, 2013, will satisfy a lot of concerns of traffic study.
· Lincoln proposal to reconfigure existing space. Traditional classroom and specialist space is at a premium. LLC considerably smaller due to implementation of computer lab. Jim Weiss stated the current state of interventions are not private and desirable.
· A Readiness Tool pilot by Erikson Institute was proposed to assess young students. Anne Gottlieb stated that there was a tool already in place and that it studies what the Erikson tool would do.
Activity Co-chair Reports
Green for Good Katarina Berin
· Solar panels are up in all three schools. Katarina will put the app where you can look up how much energy is being saved by the panels. A “Solarbration” will take place and possibly take place at Fall Fun Fest.
· Walk to School Day is Wednesday, October 8th but the hope is that it will be a weeklong event.
· Compost toters have not been delivered yet. There will be a trial program in conjunction with the 5th graders and Mr. Davis will collaborate on this.
· Green4Good will help Mr. Kadlec plant the 7th grade science garden..
· Miscellaneous: The Hunger Banquet will be on October 8th. John Williams and Laura Maychruk will contribute leadership and food. Katarina described the event and she will collaborate with Liz Fisher in implementation.
Fall Fun Fest Tania Wilson
· Revtrak is live for tickets and meals. Discount available now. Friday, October 17th is the date of event.
· SignUp Genius needs more volunteers.
· Baked Goods are needed as well.
New Business Kari McGrath
· The next IMPACT event will be on November 6th. Maureen Spielman talked about Carrie Goldman’s presentation at Lincoln School last night. Larry expressed interest in learning more regarding possible presentations by Carrie Goldman.
