Wiley Phillips Jordan, Sr., age 90, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at his residence.

“Mr. Phil” was born in Monticello, Georgia, and was the second son of Myrene Phillips and Erasmus Glover Jordan. He was an Elder and Clerk of Session for many years in the Monticello Presbyterian Church and served a term as Moderator of the Augusta-Macon Presbytery.

A graduate of Monticello District High School, he was commissioned an Ensign from the Naval ROTC program at Georgia Tech in 1945. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1947 and served thirty months on Navy destroyers and was a member of the Naval Reserve for nineteen years.

He was owner and operator for Jordan Funeral Home for fifty years; worked in the peach business; cattle farmed; and partnered with his brother, Glover Jordan in the family firm of E. G. Jordan Furniture Company for many years. He served on the Jasper County Board of Education from 1965 to 1985, and served as chair of that board for a number of years. He also served a term as President of the Georgia School Board Association.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Clyde “Clydie” Banks Jordan; and brother, Glover Jordan, Jr.

He is survived by his children, Lynda (Joseph) Gasses, W. Phillip (Miriam) Jordan, Jr., Patti (Ray) Lanier, Bob (Lynn) Jordan, and Dan Jordan, all of Monticello; nine grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 22, 2015, at Monticello Presbyterian Church, with interment at West View Cemetery. Rev. Rindy Trouteaud will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Hadid, Joe Gasses, David Stevens, Josh Sitz, Wiley Jordan, III, Alex Jordan, Bobby Mullinax, Clint Brown, and Jonathan Jordan.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 22, 2015, prior to the service, at the Fellowship Hall of the Monticello Presbyterian Church in Monticello.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations to the Monticello Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 308, Monticello, Georgia 31064; or Abbey Hospice 215 Azalea Court, Social Circle, Georgia 30025.
