MINUTES OF SSRIC MEETING

REPORT FROM ISG

ISG Move No space in DIS for new equipment. ISG got the boot. The effect: We get worse service (maybe).

Motion Ebeling: Send someone else in DIS. We were advised against such a "high profile" position in light of Proposition 9. Motion failed for lack of a second.

New Computers Contract for new machines was signed. There was only one bidder: CDC.

We were assured of a painless conversion. We got a list of instructional software programs to be reincarnated. Not all of them will make it. But, based on past use, we won't miss them (RIP).

Data Bases No new installations until after August. They are busy. A new "green monster" will be created as conversion of data bases proceeds.

Local Data Bases Something to think about: What do you want at your campus? - We can have our cake and eat it too; but we have to ask for it,

Believe It Or Not Ed Nelson noted that it w.s unfortunEte that DLS disconnected the 3300 during the last part of the semester. They refused to accept some jobs but didn't tell anyone they were going to do this. They're sorry.

Run over to your campus computer center director's office and read CDC's bid for our new system. It is "kind of fun" to read. We're a "loss leader" for them. Lucky us

The Chancellor's Office took our questions. We think that's too bad. The questions were designed to help the legislature decide to make its cuts in areas other than higher education should Proposition 9 pass.

Chuck's comments are off the record

Please send in your "use-of-data" forms to Peggy, preferably before you get this.

A WORD OF THANKS Jim thanks us for putting up with him as Chair. It was no big deal.
