$1,500 - Student Scholarship Program

I.DESCRIPTION OF SCHOLARSHIP

Two scholarships(one graduate and one undergraduate) will be awarded in the amount of $1,500 and will be presented to the respective college/university for use by the recipient for school related expenses.

II. SCHOLORSHIP ELIGIBILITY SUMMARY

Candidate must:

A.Be a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student at a Texas College/University with a major in Park Administration, Recreation and Park Administration, Landscape Architecture, Kinesiology, Event Managementor a Recreation major with a minor in Park Administration, Horticulture, Natural Resources or other related degree as determined by the TRAPS North Region Scholarship Committee. If your degree does not fall into these categories, but you are interested, please contact Maryann Zeledon at for consideration.

B.Have a minimum 2.0 overall GPA on a 4.0 system or a 2.5 within your major (from a major listed above) through the most recently completed semester.

C.Demonstrate a high degree of professional competence through extracurricular activities, work experience, and your potential contribution in the field of Park and Recreation Administration.

D.Attend the TRAPS North Region Conference in Denton, TX on Friday, November 3, 2017. TRAPS North Regionwill pay the registration fee for the Conference. Transportation to the Conference will be the responsibility of the scholarship recipient.

III.PROCEDURE FOR SELECTION

All applicants must submit:

  • Complete the scholarship application form
  • Develop and submit a 300 word statement on what the future of the parks and recreation profession looks like in their own opinion
  • A letter of intention to pursue a career involved with one of the recognized majors
  • A current resume
  • Copies of current unofficial transcripts verifying major (advising grade reports can be used)
  • One letter of recommendation (faculty orparks and recreation professional).

Afterreview and selection, the Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee will contact the scholarship winners by e-mail and written letter. The notification letter will be directed to the student receiving the scholarship and the head of the department of the appropriate school. Notification e-mails will be made byOctober 20, 2017.

One (1) typed letters of reference addressing your qualification for this scholarship and your commitment to the parks and recreation fieldmustbe submitted with applications). The letters can address your commitment to the parks and recreation field, your achievements as a student, special projects, volunteer work, your work history, and your future interest as a professional. (Graduate students can include information on research projects and thesis or dissertation topic)

Transcripts:

Include a copy of your transcripts (unofficial copy is sufficient) showing work and gradesand a listing of courses in which you are currently enrolled.
