Role title: Group Leader

Woodcraft Folk provides an informal and supportive environment for young people to develop their ideas, share experiences, explore opportunities and make life-long friends locally and beyond.Weekly groups are held in Bruntsfield, Newhaven and Portoblello where a varied programme of activities take place like, night walks, arts & crafts, bonfires, discussion activity around global issues and singing!

Woodcraft Folk is a national organisation with international links to the global community. In Edinburgh we are looking for Group Leaders. We need enthusiastic and motivated individuals interested in helping young people become confident and active, to build a world based on equality, peace, justice and co-operation.

The role

Edinburgh Woodcraft run weekly group nights with main focus on outdoor activities. We need people to support the running of existing groups and help to start and run new groups.

As a group helper you will:

  • Support leaders by encouraging good behaviour
  • Support individual children with additional needs
  • Encourage children to participate fully
  • Help to keep activities running smoothly with tasks such as taking the register or getting the room ready

As you gain skills and confidence yourself you might:

  • Contribute your ideas to the planning and running of weeknight activities in line with the aims and principles of Woodcraft Folk
  • Lead an activity during a weeknight session
  • Share a skill you have such as singing or craft
  • Help out with more ‘backstage’ tasks like fundraising or maintaining the group website
  • Share what you’ve learnt with a newer volunteer.

Hours

About 3 hours per week, ideally committing to 12 months

Skills & attributes

We are looking for someone who likes working cooperatively, enjoys the outdoors and has some experience of volunteering would be great.

And not forgetting!

You will be homebased and out and about across Edinburgh.

Your own car is not essential but access to vehicle/good transport links would be an advantage.

We pay volunteers’ “out-of-pocket” expenses within agreed guidelines.
