A is suffix a letter or a group of letters added to the end of a root word to make new words.

Kinds of suffixes

INFLECTIONAL SUFFIXES DERIVATIONAL SUFFIXES
Inflectional suffixes do not change the part of

speech of the root word. Examples

ed walk + ed = walked (verb remains a verb)

ing cry + ing = crying (verb remains a verb)

s/es fly + es = flies (verb remains a verb)

er loud + er = louder (adj remains an adj)

est pretty+est = prettiest (adj remains an adj)

(NOUNS) NUMBER/GENDER

s/es clock + s = clocks (noun remains a noun)

ess tiger + ess = tigress (noun remains a noun)

NOTE: Sometimes when a suffix is added to the root word, a slight change in the spellings occurs.e.g.
revise+sion= revision, enter+ance=entrance, cry+es=cries, pretty+er=prettier, tiger+ess=tigress
