Kindergarten Nine Week Plans

First Grading Period

The kindergarten students will be immersed in a language-rich environment to develop oral language skills in all areas of instruction. The first nine weeks we will focus on the following units:

·  School Routines/School Bus Safety/Citizenship

·  Colors/Shapes

·  Apples

·  Water Properties/Sink and Float

·  Fire Safety

·  Autumn

·  Rhyming

·  The Alphabet and Phonemic Awareness

·  Recognizing and writing first name

·  Numbers

We will teach these units utilizing all areas of instruction:

ENGLISH: Students will read a variety of literary forms.

Students will write in their journals and make class books.

Students will use the listening center and computers.

Students will understand how print is organized and read.

Students will participate in shared and guided reading lessons.

Students will participate in phonemic awareness activities.

Students will identify orally words that rhyme.

Students will understand fiction and nonfiction.

Students will print upper and lowercase letters.

Students will practice writing their first name.

Students will identify their name as well as classmates name’s in print.

MATH: Students will identify the calendar and clock.

Students will make graphs of color, names, apples, etc.

Students will count the days we are in school.

Students will learn place value by counting the days in school.

Students will learn to count by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.

Students will classify.

Students will identify shapes.

Students will identify top, middle, and bottom.

Students will be able to identify a pattern and extend it.

Students will identify a given set and write the numeral to tell how many.

SCIENCE: Students will learn about colors.

Students will learn about the season of Autumn and what happens to trees and leaves.

Students will learn about how apples and pumpkins

grow.

Students will learn about what items sink and float.

Students will participate in a field trip to the Pumpkin Patch.

Students will understand daily patterns in life.

HISTORY AND SOCIAL SCIENCES:

Students will learn good citizenship through manners and school rules.

Students will be able to describe the present and the past.

Students will use simple maps and globes.

Students will learn positional words: near/far, above/below, left/right, behind/in front of, to describe the location of people, places, and things.

Students will recognize the American flag and the Pledge of Allegiance.
