TRAVEL AND OUTING SECTION NEWSLETTER – NOVEMBER 2015

The ‘Illegal London, Secrets of Scotland Yard & The Black Museum’ tour on 10 October, was an excellent day with a very good and amusing guide. The ‘Black Museum’ exhibit at the Museum of London was particularly interesting, as was the remainder of the Museum.

70 people have booked for ‘Gypsy’ at the Savoy Theatre on Tuesday 3 November. Apologies to those of you who were unsuccessful in getting booked, but this has proved a really popular show. The coach will leave ICLHV(Concorde Club) at 1745, with the show starting at 1930. Mobile for the day will be 07946 353309.

We have now managed to get the menu and price for our annual Christmas Party on Saturday 12 December in the Olympus Hall, ICLHV(Concorde Club). As the food as improved so much we are going back to a carvery, with a vegetarian choice of vegetarian lasagne, followed by a dessert of Lemon Meringue Pie or Chocolate Fudge Cake. As in previous years the meal will include wine on the table. We have booked Brian Just to entertain us (we booked Brian last year). The bar will be open at 1830 and we will sit down to eat at 1930. The entertainment will start at approximately 2100. The evening will finish at midnight. If you would like to go a booking form is attached. If you would like to sit with a particular person, please indicate on your booking form. We apologise for the lateness of advertising this, but it was beyond our control. Dave will be taking your bookings. The cost for the evening will be £25.00 per person.

We are also taking bookings for the Christmas Carols at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 20 December. This year we have booked ‘Jingle Bell Christmas’. Favourites such as ‘Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree’, ‘Sleigh Ride’, ‘It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year’, ‘White Christmas’ and other well known Christmas favourites, plus sensational high-kicks from the Jingle Belles. Soloists are Laura Tebbutt and Tim Howar, with the London Concert Orchestra. If you would like to go, the cost will be £23.50 for members and £25.50 for non-members, to include coach from ICLHV(Concorde Club). Departure will be at 1500 and the show starts at 1615. Norma is taking bookings.

If anyone wants to make a late booking, we still have some places available (but no singles) for the Warner break at Cricket St Thomas, nr Chard, Somerset – 1/5 February 2016. We require your booking and full payment by 20 November, please, as we have to advise the tour company of our rooming list and table plan. If you haven’t already paid, we also require the balance payment from those already booked by 20 November. The full itinerary for the break has not yet been worked out, but we plan to leave ICLHV(Concorde Club) at about 1030/1100 and make our way to Salisbury for lunch (not included) and free time. After time here, we will then continue our journey on to Cricket. We are booked for 5 days on a bed, breakfast and evening meal basis, with a free bar from 1800 until midnight, Monday to Thursday. There will be two excursions from the hotel (yet to be decided, but probably Exeter and Taunton) and of course, Warner’s day and evening entertainment programme. The cost of the break will be £285.00 for members and £295.00 for non-members. Insurance, should you require it, is £19.00 per person. Dave is taking your bookings/payments.

10/14 June – Lancashire & Lake District, staying at Mercure, Last Drop Village Hotel & Spa, Bolton.

30 June – Our AGM.

16/20 September – Lincolnshire, staying at Holiday Inn, Brayford Wharf, Lincoln.

27 September – ‘Motown the Musical’ at the Shaftesbury Theatre.

We have other events planned for 2016, but are waiting for them to be confirmed by the venues.
