QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ORIENTATION PROGRAM
IN HEALTH INSTITUTIONS
A “Quality Management System (QMS) Orientation Program” held between November 7th 2008 and January 21st 2009 for Health Sciences Faculty, Health Institutions Management, 4th year students, which developed by Mithat Coruh Quality Management Center (MCKYM) with the contributions of Management and Health Sciences Faculty.
Orientation Education Program
Baskent University Health Sciences Faculty (SBF), Health Institutions Management Department (SKIB) senior year students orientation program, a 60 hour course (42 hours of interactive and 18 hours of application based), held at Baskent University Baglica Campus between 1st and the 26th of December 2008. A total of 24 Students have attended to the program.
Program Application;
a-Practical Field Study,
b- Interactive QMS(ISO 9001:2008) Training (classroom)
a- Practical Field Study; The study was applied in academic and administrative areas (invoicing and accounting, human resources, purchasing, economical, customs and patient reception services) of Baskent University Ankara Hospital and Umitkoy policlinic. Students were assigned to work at these departments and document their experiences as quality teams (consisting of 5-7 team members each). The study lasted for 18 hours and the teams prepared 8 team work reports which they presented in classroom environment to other team members and the instructors, after each assignment’s completion.
b- Interactive Education; This section of the program was held in class. Course and discussion headings were ‘Evolution of Quality System’, ‘Resume preparation’, ‘quality management system process and system approach’, ‘goal setting in product/service realization’, ‘process system concepts’, ‘finance processes’, ‘applications of statistical quality control tools’, ‘fact based decision making’, ‘continuous process improvement’, ‘forming of organizational body’, ‘Instruction and usage of Medula program (currently in use at Turkish Health Institutions nationwide)’, ‘knowledge management systems’ and ‘plan-planning’. Within this program a total of 11 instructors were appointed from Health Institutions Management Department, Economical and Administrative Science Faculty; Management Department, and Mithat Coruh Quality Management Center.
Within the Orientation Program’s application process, staff members of Baskent University’s faculty’s, administrative and academic units worked in harmony and continuously supported, contributed, and improved the program.
Students participated have reiterated that this program built their confidence and stated that they won’t have any cooping issues with any company upon assignment, with their new Quality Management Skills.
MCKYM offers a “Quality Management Seminar” to Baskent University 3rd year students on voluntary bases in 2008-2009 Academic year, fall semester within the scope of Quality Management System Education activities. The program consists of an “awareness” and “QMS Knowledge” chunks. (Duration: 15 hours per program)
