Special ProjectsGrant Process

The Walker Area Community Foundation has two opportunities for funding. All nonprofits are invited to apply for each of these Special ProjectsGrant options. Because this processis completely separate from our standard grant cycle, applying for a Special Projects Grant will not exclude you from applying to Community Fund as well. Guidelines and deadlines for Community Fund proposals may be found on our website

Special Projects Grant Options:

PROJECT COMMUNITY

Project Community is a giving society for those 25 – 55 years old. They gather four times a year to meet other people in the community that are living in and working for the good of Walker County. The money donated is combined and awarded to nonprofits in a competitive grants process. Applicants would be REQUIRED to participate in an interview with Project Connect / Community members on January 7, 2016, at 6:00 p.m.

Deadline: December 1st

YOUTH LEADERSHIP WALKER COUNTY

Youth Leadership Walker County (YLWC) consists of 40 students representing the eight high schools in Walker County. YLWC is dedicated to instilling leadership and a commitment to service in the young men and women going through the class. The Walker Area Community Foundation gives YLWC $10,000 each year to award to nonprofits and school clubs through a competitive grants process. If you apply, a team of YLWC members will come to your location to interview the grant contact listed on the application on January 12, 2016, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. as a part of the application review process.

Deadline: December 1st

Special Projects Grant Process

Guidelines

  • Applications supporting 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations may be submitted for each special projectsgrant opportunity.
  • School clubs may only apply for a grant from Youth Leadership Walker County.
  • If you apply for bothSpecial ProjectsGrants, two different proposals should be submitted.
  • Requests must change in nature and scope with each Special ProjectsGrant submitted.
  • To clarify, if you apply to Project Community and to YLWC the two proposals may not be for the same special project.
  • This Special ProjectsGrant process is a training opportunity for the Foundation to teach our donors the importance of grantmaking and giving back. With that in mind:
  • Submit proposals that are easy to read and follow.
  • Remember, the members of these groups are not seasoned grant reviewers so they do not have previous knowledge of your organization and its purpose.
  • In order to make the greatest impact with the funds available, we prefer requests that:
  • Impact the greatest number of people with a project addressing a critical need in our community.
  • Make their project enjoyable for volunteers and will encourage them to volunteer again in the future.
  • Include an effective mechanism for measuring the impact of our investment.
  • Demonstrate how volunteers will be involved in the organization
  • Include an easy to read budget for the project
  • No grants are made for:
  • Individuals
  • Dinners, Balls or other Ticketed Events
  • Travel Expenses
