Ms. Casserly called the SAC meeting to order at 3:15 pm in the SPHS Media Center. The October 2017SAC meeting minutes were disseminated. Ms. Casserly moved that we approve the October SAC minutes. Ms. Swirsky seconded the motion. All were in favor, the October minutes were approved.

Ms. Casserly shared that the district approved our new waiver intent form for Professional Study Days in the 2018/2019 school year. SAC discussed the need for the new waiver and unanimously supported moving forward with the new waiver for PSD days. The new waiver was developed and will be discussed at the Community Meeting on January 16, 2018 at 6:15 pm in the Media Center. This meeting will be advertised on the school marquee, the school website, and in parent link emails and phone calls.

Ms. Casserly requested SAC Accountability funds for math PERT tutoring. The math PERT test can take the place of the Algebra 1 EOC as the math graduation test requirement. Student who do not pass the Algebra 1 EOC can take the math PERT and get a score of 97 or higher and this takes the place of the Algebra 1 EOC. Math PERT tutoring will be on Wed. Nov. 29, Thurs. Nov. 30 and Fri. Dec. 1 after school in room 238A from 3 to 5 pm. 6 hours X teacher hourly rate of $30 per hour = $180. Ms. Casserly moved that SAC approve $180 from SAC Accountability funds for math PERT tutoring. Ms. Samuels seconded the motion. An oral vote was taken, and all SAC members present voted “yes”. The motion passed.

Ms. Casserly shared that she and Mr. Reed would be attending a training on Dec. 8thfor the School Improvement Plan and the Mid-Year Review. This information will be shared with SAC at the January SAC meeting.

Nominations for November SAC Employee of the Month:

  1. Nominated by Donna Cooper:

Stephanie Polin-she has done a great job with the Annual coffee shop that showcases the talents of students in the school and she is an excellent Newspaper advisor. Every year both endeavors are approached with such excellence, hard work and determination and the results are exemplary.

  1. Nominated by Donna Cooper:

Anthony Acierno. Every year he is an essential component in South’s phenomenal graduation rate and he has continued this year. Between him and Ms. Hjelsand and the tutoring for SAT and ACT they provide, many of our juniors and seniors are now on track to graduate that were not on track before. Mr. Acierno is an excellent asset to South.

  1. Nominated by Nicole Pollino:

I'd like to nominate Lindsey Agoglia for November! When I arrived here last year, she took me under her wing and showed me the Paladin Way. She ALWAYS shares everything within her PLC and does an amazing job with the Shape Club and Relay for Life. She gives 200% in all that she does which is highly commendable!!

  1. Nominated by Nereida Miller:

I would like to nominate Marci Grady for November SAC Employee of the Month. As our testing/assessmentcoordinator, Marci is responsible for all district testing (including EOC's, PERT, FSA, ASVAB, AP testing, school-day SAT). This is a huge and stressful undertaking, and shehandles it with a coolness and finesse that is signature Marci. Additionally, she is anall-around an incredible person

SAC voted to name Ms. Grady the November SAC Employee of the Month. There is no December SAC meeting, so SAC also voted to name Mr. Acierno the December SAC Employee of the Month.

There was no new business. The SAC meeting was adjourned at 3:50 pm.
