Coaches Bios
Tom Keer -- Head Coach
Tom Keer is returning for the second year as Head Coach. Tom is currently the Boys’ Varsity Swim Coach at Marple Newtown High School. He is also the Head Coach and Founder of Triton Swim Team, a USA Swimming Club.
In the 1990’s, Tom coached at RTW. Many of the current parents were swimmers then. Tom has been coaching for more than 30 years. His experience started as a volunteer when he was young. Tom continued while in high school and in college at Southern Connecticut State University. Tom was a collegiate swimmer all 4 years. His Bachelor’s degree is in Liberal Studies with a minor in Computer Science.
Tom later earned his teaching certification in Secondary Math. This past year, he taught 7th and 8th grade advanced math at Paxon Hollow Middle School.
Tom’s coaching experience has high success in younger swimmers as well as high school swimmers. Success has been seen with high performing individual swimmers along with teams winning championships!!
Carlee Moir -- Assistant Head Swim Coach
Carlee swam for Rose Tree Woods Swim Club from 2006-2009, and has coached (pre-team and assistant) during the summers of 2009-2012, and 2014-present. While growing up she swam for many teams (winter and summer) in Delaware County. Among these, she swam for Marple Newtown High School and was elected captain her senior year in 2008. Carlee also qualified for PIAA District I AAA Championships during the years of 2005, 2007, and 2008 while on the MN swim team. She earned NISCA Academic All-American and All-Delco Honorable Mention in 2008, and All-Central League Honorable Mention in 2006 and 2007.
After high school, Carlee attended Widener University and earned a B.S. in Biology/Environmental Science. Her swimming career continued at Widener University, where she was appointed captain both her junior and senior years (2010-2012). She qualified and placed in the final heat (top 8) at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships all four years. In individual events, she placed in the final heat for the 500 yd. free (2012, 2011), 400 yd. IM (2012, 2011), 200 yd. fly (2011, 2010, 2009), and 100 yd. fly (2009). In relays, Carlee placed in the 200 yd. free relay (2011, 2010), 400 yd. free relay (2010, 2009), 800 yd. free relay (2010, 2009), 400 yd. medley relay (2010), and the 200 yd. medley relay (2009). In 2011, she helped lead her team to a MAC championship victory win, during her junior year of college. She was named a NCAA Scholar All American, All MAC Honor Roll, and was awarded the Widener University Blue and Gold Club Pride Award in 2012.
Carlee then earned her M.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Tulane University. She is currentlya science teacher at High Point High School, in Beltsville, MD. Carlee also has been serving as the head boys and girls swim team coach for High Point from 2013 to the present. She holds a NFHS Accredited Interscholastic Coach (AIC) certification. Carlee enjoys coaching and the sport of swimming, in addition to spending her summers at RTW.
Nina Benedetti -- Assistant Swim Coach/Pre-Team Coach
Nina started her competitive swimming career at six years old. She swims for Rose Tree Woods Swim Club, The Episcopal Academy Aquatic Club, and is a four year varsity member of Haverford High School's swim team. She has consistently qualified for league championships, championships, and opens, particularly in backstroke and butterfly. In addition to placing at these meets she has also won numerouscoach's awards and high point awards. She begancoachingat 16 years old. In addition tocoaching and lifeguarding at Rose Tree Woods, Nina is an assistant coach for Triton Swim Team (who she recently began swimming for,) and works at the Haverford Area YMCA as a swim instructor and lifeguard. Outside of swimming, she's heavily involved in music and is a concert mistress violinist. She will be attending West Chester University in the fall.
Tommy Benedetti -- Dive Coach
Tommy has been a member of the RTW Swim and Dive program since 2005. He has earned the RTW Dive Team overall highpoint award several times. This past year he was captain for Haverford High School's Dive Team. Tommy's passion for the sport has led him to pursue an interest in coaching and thus is looking forward to coaching another year at RTW. Tommy plans to continue his studies next fall at West Chester University.
Alexa Mugler -- Assistant Swim Coach
Alexa began swimming competitively at the age of 7 for Rose Tree Woods swim team in the summer. She loved the sport so much that she club swam for RAC in the winters throughout elementary school and EAAC throughout middle school. Every summer she continued to swim at Rose Tree as well. When she got to Marple Newtown high school, she was eager to join the swim team, especially knowing that so many of the friends she met and grew up with at Rose Tree were also a part of the central league.
Throughout her years of both summer and club swimming she collected three spirit awards, three coaches awards and the Johnathan Bartlett award. At Rose Tree, she now lifeguards and enjoys working with the swimmers.
She is now a going to be entering her Senior year and still loves swimming for MNHS and RTW. This past year, Alexa was an Assistant Coach with Triton Swim Team, a USA Swimming team at Marple Newtown. Alexa was successful working with new, younger swimmers. She also found success working with the swimmers ages 11-14. Alexa is consistent and positive with swimmers. This translates into swimmers working hard for Alexa as she leads them in practice.
Her favorite part of coaching is getting to watch other kids fall in love with the sport of swimming like she once did and grow as both athletes and friends with one another.
Jimmy Turley -- Assistant Coach
Jimmy Turley is from Havertown, PA. He is a Psychology Major/Biology Minor entering his sophomore year at Washington College in Chestertown, MD. Jimmy has been swimming and competing as a member of US Swimming since the age of 7. He is a four time PIAA District 1 Swimmer for Haverford High School, a one-time States Team swimmer and Academic All-American recognized by NISCA. Jimmy is a member of the Washington College Swim Team. In his free-time Jimmy loves to teach swim lessons and sing with the Washington College Acappella Group.
