3rd - 4th grades: Living in Early Hunt County

Native American Pinch Pot

Objective: Students will tour the Early Hunt County Gallery and visit the Ende House and the Cabin. They will learn about the early history of our county and how people lived, from the Caddo Indians up to the early 1900s. Students will get to make a pinch pot out of clay to take home. Limited to 50 students.

One-Room Schoolhouse

Objective: Students will tour the Early Hunt County Gallery and visit the Ende House and the Cabin. They will learn about the history of our county and how people lived in the late 1800s to early 1900s. Students will learn what it was like to go to school in the “olden” days. They will do a lesson using a slate and chalk and will also do one using ink and goose quill pen. Both methods were used in the turn of the century one-room school houses depending upon the wealth of the families. Limited to 50 students.

5th - 6th grades: Living in Early Hunt County

Advertising

Objective: Students will tour the Early Hunt County Gallery and visit the Ende House and the Cabin. They will learn about the history of our county and how people lived in the late 1800s to early 1900s. Students will learn about advertising in the 1920s as they visit the main street shops. They will create their own advertisement for the “newest” candy, dress, soda, medicine, etc. They can also create a slogan and a name if it’s something brand new that the students have come up with. Limited to 50 students.

A Trip to Town

Objective: Students will tour the Early Hunt County Gallery and visit the Ende House and the Cabin. They will learn about the early history of our county and how people lived in the late 1800s to early 1900s. Students will “take a shopping trip to town in the year 1922”. They will divide into small groups and will be given a scenario where they will have to figure out what they will need to purchase with a limited budget while visiting the main street shops. Then everyone will gather to discuss what choices each group made and why they chose the items they did. Limited to 50 students.
