PURPOSE OF ROLE
Lead the management and development ofFriends of the Earth’s email channelto deliver a great experience to our supporters. The role will support the creation, delivery, evaluation and optimisation of email marketing and campaign activity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES & TASKS
- Take full responsibility for the management and performance of Friends of the Earth’s email channel, including keeping track of the overall and relative performance of the channel and outputs from other teams.
- Develop and deliver an email marketing strategy that maximises the retention and engagement levels of both non-financial and financial supporters, with clear goals and KPIs that relate to organisational targets; able to review, assess and mitigate risks associated with the email channel.
- Develop email marketing standards and skills across the organisation. Ensure email marketing guidance and training is up-to-date [in line with best practice, future industry trends, results of testing and relevant external compliance].
- Establish & optimise benchmarking and performance indicators for the channel, and evaluate its ongoing performance.
- Develop, deliver and optimise a full-lifecycle approach to email supporter journeys, including supporter on-boarding and reactivation programs.
- Lead the organisation’s email marketing testing program and provide recommendations and guidance based upon findings, and create a culture of testing and innovation.
- Establish, guide and develop the skills of a core team of cross-organisational email content producers and editors and email marketing system users [currently Mail Chimp].
- Provide leadership and guidance about email marketing, supporter experience and supporter journeys to colleagues involved in developing the email marketing plans of major activities and projects across the organisation, including fundraising.
- Contribute to the organisations supporter recruitment activities.
- Manage the organisation’s email marketing budget and relationships with external vendors [currently Mail Chimp].
- Innovate and create new ways of working to streamline the email marketing process whilst improving performance.
- Responsible for using all available supporter insight – commissioning it when necessary – to weigh options and risks to the delivery of an optimal supporter experience.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships within Friends of the Earth and with external bodies including marketing project partners, marketing agencies, and other NGOs to support delivery of marketing strategies.
- Contribute to team planning, strategic communications, marketing development and to the implementation and development of brand guidelines. Ensure all supporter email communications are scheduled and edited to agreed standards and goals.
- Identify content gaps and commission content when required both within and outside of the major projects.
- Be aware of and follow Friend of the Earth policies and procedures, with particular attention to Risk Management, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, and our values. You will be required to attend training as necessary.
PERSON SPECIFICATION (essential shortlisting criteria)
Essential
- Extensive experience/vocational qualifications in marketing and communications.
- Experienced as a leading organisational expert in email marketing with a proven track record of improving the performance of an email channel.
- Superb email production skills - in particular, with written and visual content.
- Proven ability to develop, manage and evaluate marketing projects.
- Confidence and proven experience in guiding others in email marketing techniques and processes.
- Able to co-create and project an engaging organisational personality which is consistent across our email communications, our social media channels and with destinations like our website.
- Passionate about growing social communities with excellent moderation and customer care skills.
- Excellent advocacy, consultation and facilitation skills.
- Experience of working closely and effectively with others to find timely solutions to digital communication issues.
- Understanding of factors such as how on and offline touch points work together to create a satisfying experience for supporters, and best practice in landing and sign up pages to optimise for performance (or draw on expertise as appropriate).
- Demonstrable desire to advance own specialist knowledge to further develop profile as thought leader.
- Experience of using a test/build/learn approach to developing email channel (including supporter journey development, email templates and sign up pages).
- Able to mine existing data from Google Analytics and Mail Chimp for insight.
