Other:

  1. Course units
  2. Course prerequisites
  3. Graduation requirements-Items 1-3 were taken and discussed together. Miles said we need to look at these areas because of the impact on students. About 10% of our students don’t need remediation in ENGL and fewer than that place in MATH P051. Financial Aid has max units they are paying to students. What is best for students? Current GE pattern is 39 units.

Is it best for our students to have no prerequisites? Virginia said that the board needs to change our current validation process. We are impacted in enrollment, so this is the time to add prerequisites. Students are getting into classes that don’t have a writing requirement. The CSU and UC system required Math for its science courses a few years ago so we were able to use that to add prerequisites to the PC science courses.

Miles Vega asked the committee to take these three items back to their division. Kailani informed the committee that Fresno State questioned the unit value of stats. Jon Satko said it is barely enough time to cover all the content of the course. Miles asked what part of the content is needed by the CSU and UC for transfer. Genevie said that students are getting frustrated because they have to take so many units in the nursing area. Bill says that success rates are a big question and units become budget issue, a load issue, etc. The committee was tasked with taking these items to their division and bringing them back to the curriculum meetings for further review and discussion. The items will remain on the agenda for the fall semester.

  1. Stand Alone course training
