Aquatic Science is the study of aquatic systems, encompassing both fresh and salt water.
Units of Study:
- 1st Semester is Fresh Water –Water cycle, Watersheds, Quality, Aquatic Animals and Plants, Wetlands, Pollution, Sewage Treatment Plants
- 2nd Semester is Salt Water – Abiotic and Biotic Aspects of Oceans, Types of Oceanic Environments, Ocean Inhabitants – Animals and Plants, Ocean Relationships
How you will gain Information:
- Field investigation, Laboratory investigations, Research, Projects, Notes, Lectures, Internet
Grading:
- Daily work counts as 50% of the six weeks grade.
= daily assignments, lab work, quizzes, etc.
No less than 8 per six weeks
- Tests and major assignments count as the other 50% of the grade.
= tests, presentations, projects, lab reports, etc.
3 per six weeks.
- If you are absent, it is your responsibility to ask for missed work.
- Late work – accepted until end of six weeks – max grade 70%
- NO GRADES ARE DROPPED
Tutorials:
- Monday, Thursday, and Friday: 7:00am-7:25am
- None after school due to Swimming
Supplies
- Pen, pencil
- Spiral Notebook and/or Folder with paper
- A class set of textbooks will be provided.
- Please bring ONE of the following: paper towels, kleenex, hand soap
Food & Drink:
- Snacks are permitted unless told otherwise – ie. Labs, etc.
- Water bottles, Gatorade, etc. must have a lid.
- If you chew gum, it must not be seen or heard.
Classroom Behaviors:
DO WHAT IS RIGHT!
- Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
- Respectful language, dress, and behavior are expected at all times.
- Follow all directions and safety rules every day.
- Have notebook or folder every day.
Classroom Consequences:
- First offense- verbal warning
- Second offense – 15 seconds owed after the bell
- Third offense – 30 seconds owed after the bell
- Fourth offenses – D-hall with me (clean tanks) and parent contact
- Further offenses – will involve your assistant principal
- Major Discipline issues will result in an immediate office referral.
Restroom Policy:
- No restroom breaks due to being in the portable. True Emergency Only.
Tardies:
- The door will be locked when the bell rings. We start class on time. No excuses.
