During the Summer term of 2013Area Recorder Festivals will be held inthe Andover/Winchester/Chandler’s Ford/New Forest/Hedge End areas of the county. The aims of the festivals are to support teachers in developing the recorder playing skills of their pupils, and to provide a motivating target. Theywill be led by our recorder team for Hampshire Music Service.

This year we are trialling a new system for the festivals. In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, there will be no twilights running, however all materials will be available to download from our website. Support can still be provided for those who would like it.

Children learn the music with their teacher in school, and come together for a final workshop later in the term ending in a short presentation to parents.

The festivals are appropriate for pupils who are learning the recorder in years 1 or 2 since the start of the this academic year. The note range will be very limited and all of the pieces can be taught aurally.

Each participating school will be provided with all the resources that will be required for the festival. The music has always been seen by schools as a valuable resource for building on the long term.
