Where the heck did the summer go? For the hard riders, we are down to one month of riding, maybe! Now it’s time to reminisce about the rides we took this year and spend the winter thinking of new rides for next year’s riding season.
Our Chapter will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary on Oct. 22nd at our Dealership. If this date sounds familiar, it is the day the Dealership is having the Chili Cook Off. We will have an area setup for Chapter Members only, called the HOG Pen, in the Service area. All current Chapter Members will receive a wrist band allowing them access to the HOG Pen, two free four 2 oz. sample plates for chili, and a bottle of water. There will also be free anniversary cake in the HOG Pen. We will have picture albums to browse through. Don’t miss this day of celebration.
It’s time to think about renewing your Chapter Membership. We are planning a pizza party for Saturday, November 5 at the North Fond du Lac Community Center. The day will start at 9:30am with coffee or soda and a presentation by a Dealer Service Representative discussing “Winterizing Your Harley”. Everyone who joins or renews that day will receive two pieces of pizza, a soda or water, and a cookie. Why not receive the benefits of being a Chapter member immediately by renewing that day.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the 2017 Chapter Christmas Party on January 7th at the Holiday Inn. Those of you who attended last year, remember the weather? Well don’t put yourself through that again; book a room at the Holiday Inn for just $99 + tax. We have a block of 12 rooms at this low price, until December 8th, so don’t wait. To reserve a room for this block, please contact the Holiday Inn at 920-923-1440. This year we booked the large Banquet room because of the great turn out we had last year. This is one of our biggest Chapter events of the year. The cost will be split 1/3Dealership, 1/3 Chapter and 1/3 Chapter member, just like it was last year. Mark your calendars now for this event.
Start your Bikes, keep warm and let’s RIDE as long as we can!
Safety Article: by Leo UdeeGROUPERS: We’re not covering ocean fishing here, just a message on group rides.
Eric Trow of StayinSafe.com states: “Groups of Riders are just individuals riding together.” This implies that you have both the same and added responsibilities to get yourself home safely and everyone else within the group too.
Our ORHD rode Captains meet early each year to discuss past club rides and new adjustments to anything associated with those rides and or directives from HOG’s headquarters. Mr. Trow explains: “When several riders get together for a ride, it’s common to adopt a pack mentality. But, if you think about it, there is no logical reason to abandon our individual standards.”

Do not ride to any level that is beyond what you are personally comfortable with!
You are not only responsible for yourself and any passenger but, you are additionally responsible for those around you and everyone’s safe return. It’s really the same as when you are on your own on the streets and amongst other vehicles and their passengers.
Lane position: Experts agree that the staggered motorcycle lane positions for 2 wheelers, and center of the lane for Trikes is appropriate. We all can’t see where our rear tires are positioned on the tarmac.
Because Trike riders can’t see that if they rode in the staggered position in one half of a lane, they may be hanging a rear wheel over a centerline and or perhaps worse yet onto or over the edge of the paved road surface and onto gravel or the slope of a ditch.
We all enjoy our fellowship of the H-Dculture, and fun times as a group. The safety of lane position, space, not exceeding our abilities and the ultimate safe return of all, belongs to each of us as an individual.
