RFID ETCH RESISTS

The majority of products here currently are for rotary screen or gravure, we have ongoing development and field test projects using flexo equipment, interested parties can contact their local sales representative for more information.

XZ55 – Thermal Cure /Solvent Strip Etch Resist

XZ55 has good printing properties and a long screen life. Suitable for application to copper or aluminium laminate.

XZ55 will dry to give a tough, tack free scratch resistant mask.

Most RFID producers will be interested in the rotary screen version which has been formulated to be compatible with

the high speed reel-to-reel production methods associated with high volume high throughput tag production. Please

discuss with your local sales representative to ensure the version most suited to your needs is provided

The printed resists will withstand almost all plating and etch bath or combination of baths likely to be used. The cured film is also resistant to anodising, hydrofluoric acid etching and etchants commonly used in circuit and RFID production.

Resolution of 75-100microns is achievable (resolution is always dependant not just on the etch resist but customers print & etch capability and production environment).

After etch or plating the film is easily removed with a range of common industrial solvents –such as Aliphatic, aromatic and halogenated hydrocarbon. XZ55 can also be removed in trichlorethane vapour.

Typically hard drying can be achieved at a line speed of 80m/min at 180oC, using a 2M length oven.

Convection ovens can also be used; typical drying will be 4-8 minutes at 120-130 oC

The use of solvents for stripping purposes gives this resist superior performance in ammonical type etching solutions

Available in 5kg packs;

XZ55 / Solvent Soluble Plating Resist (High Speed Printing Version) / 5 / Packcode TBC / TIL Number TBC

XZ55 is supplied at a viscosity suitable for flat bed screen printing. The addition of 10-15% of XZ39 Fast Thinner will achieve a viscosity suitable for common rotary screen equipment (typical application viscosity should be 25-35dPa.s)

Please refer to TIL for further information.

Coates Circuit Products supply a full range of etch and plating resists. This range includes a flat-bed screen version of this product and an LPI resist (Liquid Photo Imageable products offer very high definition capabilities). XZ77 High Speed Print Versions – Etch/Plating Resist

These versions of XZ77 have been specially formulated to be compatible with application by gravure The resist has

good printing properties and a long screen life. Suitable for application to copper or aluminium clad laminate.

XZ77 will cure to give a tough, tack free scratch resistant film.

The printed resists will withstand practically every plating bath or combination of baths likely to be used. The cured film is also resistant to anodising, hydrofluoric acid etching and etchants commonly used in circuit production.

Resolution of 75-100microns is achievable (resolution is always dependant not just on the etch resist but customers print & etch capability and production environment – clean room class 10,000 is recommended)

Two versions for high speed/reel to reel production process are available:

XZ77G – For Gravure Printing

If required, XZ77G can be thinned with up to 5-10% XZ90 Fast Thinner to achieve a suitable printing viscosity. Typically application viscosity should be 45-60 seconds (Zahn#3).

XZ77RS – For Rotary Screen Printing

* can be thinned with up to 5-10% XZ39 thinner to achieve a suitable printing viscosity. Typically application viscosity should be 25-35 seconds dPa (on a VT04 viscometer).

After etch or plating the cured film is easily removed with a strong caustic (Alkali) solution – typically the film will be stripped in aqueous alkali solutions (3-5% Sodium hydroxide at 40-50oC ids recommended).

Typically cure can be achieved at a line speed of 80m/min at 180oC, using a 2M length oven.

Convection ovens can also be used; typical drying will be 4-8 minutes at 120-130 oC

NB - An additional gravure print, UV cure, reel to reel alkali stripping etch resist is also available from our sister company, however it uses Ethyl Acetate (EA) for thinning and due to the relatively low flash point of this solvent generally XZ77G is recommended.

Available in 5kg packs;

XZ03RS High Speed - Alkali Soluble Etch Resist

XZ03RS is formulated to give fine line definition with minimum undercutting during etching. This version has specifically been designed for application by rotary screen printing:

-Screen Defined, formulated to be applied on high speed/reel to reel Rotary Screen production lines.

-Suitable fast oven drying (1-8hours at room temp, only a few minutes in heated oven).

-Suitable for acid etch only, will resist most commercially available acid etchants such as cupric chloride, ferric chloride, and ammonium persulphate.

-Very fast stripping,XZ03 has a low pigmentation which means reduced sludge or residues in the stripping solution. Potassium or Sodium Hydroxide solution is recommended.

XZ03RS is available blue colour only & comes in 5kg packs only;

XZ03RS / Alkali Soluble Rotary Screen Etch Resist / 5KG / CRSN2356 / TIL NUMBER TBC

* can be thinned with up to 5-10% XZ39 thinner to achieve a suitable printing viscosity. Typically application viscosity should be 25-35 seconds dPa (on a VT04 viscometer).

XV1000RS – UV Cure – Alkali Strip Etch Resist for Rotary Screen

XZ1000RS is specially formulated to be compatible with high speed reel to reel / Rotary Screen printing. The

resist has good printing properties and a long screen life. Suitable for application to copper or

Aluminium laminate. XZ1000RS will cure to give a tough, tack free scratch resistant film.

The cured film is fully compatible with common acid etchants. Recommended for use with acid etch solutions but can also be used with alkali etchants up to pH9.5, with careful processing.

Typically cure speeds of up to 20m/min are achieved using 2 x 200W/cm medium pressure mercury lamps. Increased cure speed can be achieved with the use of Fe doped lamps.

After etching, the film can be stripped in aqueous alkali solutions (typically 3-5% Sodium hydroxide at 40-50oC).

Resolution of 75-100microns is achievable (resolution is always dependant not just on the etch resist but customers print & etch capability and production environment)

Available in 5kg packs;

XZ1000RS / UV Etch Resist for RS (Blue) / 5KG / CRSN2318 / TIL Number
TBC

XZ1000RS is recommended for use at the supplied viscosity, should thinning be required up to 5% XV401 can be added. Addition above this level may adversely affect cure properties
