What is the difference between Beta Club and National Honor Society?

National Honor Society, the other academic organization that participates in community service is different form Beta Club in different ways:
  • KHS Beta Club requires a 3.75 GPA to become a member. (NHS requires a 4.0 GPA)
  • KHS Beta Club requires 15 hours of service for the entire year (NHS requires 15 hours per semester)
  • Beta Club membership usually stays under 50 students so we are a tight knit group and are like family. (NHS has hundreds of members)

How can I join Beta Club at Kingwood High School?

The first thing a student can do if he/she wishes to join Beta Club is come to our first meeting. There he/she will learn all about Beta Club and learn the process of admission. However, it is a really simple process. All the student must do is have his/her counselor sign a form affirming that he/she has a 3.75 GPA or higher. After the student turns in that form and the yearly dues, he/she is now a Beta Club member!

Any freshman wishing to join Beta Club in second semester will have the same form signed by his/her counselor that the upperclassmen completed in first semester.
“I loved being a part of Beta Club because it enabled me to hold a leadership position, be involved in school and community wide service projects… Beta Club is a little bit of everything for everybody”

What are some perks of Beta Club?

There are many perks of being a beta club member such as exploring new experiences with lifelong friends. Also, because Beta Club is a nationally chartered organization, one other perk for senior members in good standing is getting to wear a cord at graduation. /

One popular place Beta Club volunteers at is at Westminster Senior Living community. Often times, students will play BINGO with the elderly and have in the past thrown a Valentine’s Day Prom for the residents.

Requirements throughout the School year

Throughout the school year, Beta Club members will be required to earn at least 15 points of volunteer work. (1 point = 1 hour).
Five of those 15 can come from organizations outside of Beta Club. (Ex: if a student helps a neighbor move some new furniture, etc, the student must have someone other than family sign their point form to verify that the student did the work that he/she claims he/she did.)
One drive point is required for the year which basically means that the Beta Club member must participate in one of the many drives Kingwood High School supports every year.
Every additional drive that the student participates in after that first drive may count towards his/her service points (max. 3).
