Job Description

Home-Start Barnet is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of children, young people and families. We have been commissioned by London Borough Barnet to deliver Community Coaching project borough wide. The project uses brief interventions led by trained volunteer coaches to help families and individuals achieve the best possible outcomes in life. This year the project is expanding to include a twelve month pilot helping to prevent young people becoming involved in crime and anti social behaviour, where a risk has been identified.

As a result we are recruiting a full time Senior Coordinator to manage the project with the support of two full time staff and a bank of Volunteer Coaches.

Hours of work 36 hours/week

Main work contacts

·  Work in close co-operation with the Home-Start Barnet staff team

·  Work in consultation with Home-Start nationally and regionally

·  Chair of management committee

·  Referral partners of the programme

·  Key stakeholders – Schools, Police, YOT, Probation, Health, Courts , NJP’s, other agencies in respect of young offenders

Main Purposes of the job

·  To take responsibility for providing leadership and management for the Community Coaching project.

·  To maintain high standards of practice in supporting clients within the ethos of Home-Start.

·  To ensure the effective day to day management of the scheme in accordance with the Home-Start governing documents, the Home-Start Agreement and Quality Assurance Standards

·  To ensure inclusion and diversity in all aspects of the organisation’s work

Key areas and main tasks of the job

Managing the project

·  Taking ultimate responsibility for the day to day management of the Community Coaching and Safer Communities Coordinators

·  Reporting to and supporting the Operations Manager, CEO and the Board of Trustees to ensure the strategic management and development of the organisation.

·  Supporting the Operations Manager in ensuring all Home-Start policies and procedures are implemented and reviewed.

·  Supporting the Operations Manager in ensuring effective administration and financial systems are in place.

·  Managing the Community Coaching project support work of the organisation.

·  Supporting the Board of Trustees and the Management Team in the recruitment, selection, induction, management and deployment of Community Coordinators and other paid employees where appropriate.

·  Supervising the work of staff and volunteer coaches supporting the project.

Support for clients

·  Maintaining an overview of the work with clients.

·  Receive, assessing and allocating Community Coaching referrals.

·  Maintaining an overview of the work with clients

·  Providing peer group supervision to staff

·  Ensuring support to clients is reviewed at regular intervals and at the end of Home-Start support.

·  To undertake the strategic lead and designated responsibilities to safeguard and promote children’s welfare.

·  Organising trips and events for families & overseeing the risk assessment procedure for each event

·  To make accurate, clear assessments of risk in relation to volunteer, public, offending/reoffending and vulnerability, with view to developing and implementing a risk management plan.

Managing Volunteers

·  Support Volunteer Coordinator in training and assessing Volunteer Coaches

·  Matching and introducing Volunteer Coaches to supported by the project

·  Providing support, supervision and development opportunities to Volunteers

Working in Partnership

·  Maintain close links with the Home-Start Barnet team

·  Liaise with referrers and other professionals working with offenders.

·  Monitor and evaluate support work and provide written reports as required by relevant bodies

·  Provide regular reports to Operations Manager and CEO

·  Attend regular practitioner/ partner meetings as required

·  Work collaboratively with other appropriate organisations/individuals with a view to developing Home-Start services.

The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role and responsibilities of the position as detailed above.
