Reading and Language:
Enjoyed Tanya’s Reunion, a story about a girl who experiences many different emotions as she anticipates her family reunion. We learned that things may not be what we expect and growing up means changing the way we may view things!
Discussed character sketches as vivid descriptions of what someone looks like, says, and does. By Monday, students should choose their favorite story character from either their textbook or from an A.R. book. During the next 2 weeks, we will be doing several writing and creative projects with that character.
Identified the difference between singular common nouns (“one”) and pluralcommon nouns(“more than one”). Throughout the week, we also continued reviewing last week’s skill of differentiating between common nouns and proper nouns.
Spelling:
Studied and correctly spelled words with the /oo/ and /oo/ sounds. These were a bit more difficult because students had to focus on hearing the long and short stress when the words were pronounced.
Analyzed entry words in a dictionary and labeled each part of the definition.
Thank you to our wonderful parents for making the Halloween party “BOO-tiful”!
Mrs. Huddlestun / Thank you to all the parents who helped to make our Halloween festivity a success! I truly appreciate everything! This week students will be bringing home a reminder sheet about parent teacher conferences. Please make sure you receive the reminder sheet, if you did not receive one please let me know as soon as possible. I look forward to meeting you all!
In Science, students are still learning about the five kingdoms. This week, students are learning more about the plant kingdom. Students are learning about how plants make their own food through the process known as photosynthesis. They are also learning about plant reproduction. Students are doing a fantastic job on knowing all five kingdoms and the meaning of each kingdom. Great job everyone!
Within Mathematics, students are still working with fractions. This week, students have started to learn about how to write equivalent fractions and fractions in simplest form. Learning about these two topics is a challenge, but everyone is doing a wonderful job working hard and trying their best.
Finally, in Social Studies, students are continuing to learn about geography. This week, students are learning about their environment. Students have been discussing and learning about renewable and nonrenewable resources, environmental concerns, and how to protect their environment.
Have a Super Weekend!
Mrs. Basham
At the beginning of the year and throughout the 1st quarter, students were reminded to be respectful, responsible, and productive. Students, who earned 7 or less behavior checks and met A.R. classroom goal, would be rewarded with a Behavior Party. On Friday morning, the following students enjoyed snacks and a movie for making good choices!
