While you are reading use the following symbols and writing to get down what you are thinking.

Underline = Anything you think is important to the overall purpose of the article.

? = Anything you aren’t sure about or have a question or comment about. (Made you go Hmmm or Huh?) Write the comment or question in the margin.

Circle = Any word that you don’t know the meaning of

! = Anything that stood out and surprised you or made you think WOW.

Once finished reading and inkthinking:

-write down a summary of what you think the purpose of the article was.

-write each word you circled down and use context clues to try and figure out the definition

-If the article discusses an experiment or study make sure you identify your variables, control, constants.
