Auction Guidelines

Sale of Beekeeping Equipment & Bees.

To assist in the smooth running of the auction, as well as promoting good beekeeping habits and minimising spread of bee diseases, vendors and bidders should be familiar with the following:-

1.  All potential vendors and bidders are required to register and receive a

recorded number before participating in any submission of, bidding for

or transactions related to auction lots.

2.  The auction shall be limited to 300 lots on a ” first come first served” basis

3.  Price reserves on submitted lots should be given at the time of registration. All reserve prices should be deemed to be “ reasonable “ otherwise entry into the auction may be refused . All queries to the Auction Co-ordinator .

4.  Entries should be restricted to bees, equipment related to beekeeping, bee products and their processing or apiary maintenance. For other items please

5.  Only equipment in good condition* will be accepted. Hive parts: please submit only new, as new or adequately cleaned, (preferably sterilised), equipment. Clean used feeders accepted. No drawn comb, used frames, used gloves or used manipulating / cover cloths are permitted at the Auction venue.

Honey equipment, which does not meet current food preparation standards (only stainless steel, glass and food grade plastic), can only be sold for decorative purposes.

6.  Used personal protective clothing must have been appropriately cleaned.

7.  Beverley BKA reserves the rights to reject any submitted items.

8.  Beverley BKA / the Auctioneer may alter the content of a lot to encourage sales.

9.  Only bees that have been examined by the Bee Inspector** immediately preceding the auction date will be accepted. Bees must be on site by 09:00, each colony shall be accompanied by its own information sheet. (For potential bee entries please email

10.  Any submitted electrical items must be in safe working order. Any item requiring an electrically check on the auction day may involve a small charge.

11.  Lots are sold as seen Beverley BKA will endeavour to describe lots fairly and accurately but take no responsibility for error, omission or mistake made in connection with the auction. Once sold the lot becomes the responsibility of the buyer.

12.  Any disagreements over purchases should be referred to the auctioneer before the auctioning of the next item.

13.  Lots, other than bees, which remain unsold or are uncollected within two hours of the end of selling will be removed (a charge may be made).

14.  All payments for purchased lots should be made through the registration desk. Purchased lots may not be removed from the auction site without a payment receipt obtained from the registration desk. Please declare such receipts to a steward for checking prior to removal.

15.  Terms of Payment: preferably cash (or cheque if the buyer is known to an association committee member present on the day). No card transactions facilities are available.

16.  No entry or buyer’s fee is charged. 10% sales commission will be levied on the seller.

17.  Beverley BKA shall not be liable for any loss or damage to any buyer’s or vendor’s property.

*Good condition implies that the equipment, as submitted, would be acceptable for immediate use in a teaching apiary and of a standard that we would be content to recommend that a beginner should purchase. Beverley Beekeepers’ Association Stewards will asses entries to determine suitability for admission of lots.
