一、Before operation
1.If you have any medical underlying diseases (like
cardiovascular disease/hypertension) or allergy (food or
medication), please inform doctors when you are admitted.
2.If necessary, please shave your hair within 5 cm radius around
the ear to prevent infection during the operation.
3.Please keep nothing in mouth (food or water) since midnight of
the operation day.
二、Operation
1.Geneal anesthesia will be adopted in most of ear surgeries.
2.Incisional wound will be located in the post-auricular area.
3.External ear canal will be stuffed with soft tape. After
operation, ears will be covered several gauzes with fixation
of bandage.
三、After operation
1.Wound pain, or mild dizziness will be felt on the day of
operation. It is normal if there is stuff sensation over the
ear or any throat discomfort.
2.If you feel headache, neck stiffness, vomiting, any asymmetry
of face, please contact medical staffs immediately.
3.Avoid forceful blowing. Open your mouth when sneezing and you
may swallow rhinowhea to prevent shaking lead.
4.If bondage is wrapped too tight or cause any discomfort,
please contact medical staffs. Bondage will be removed after
2 to 3 days after operation.
5.You will be informed to go to therapy room for wound care and
bandage-changing. Please bring your own bondage with you.
6.Please braid your hair up in case of wound infection.
7.After bondage is removed, there will be some sticky bloody
discharge from external ear canal. Do not pick ear by
yourself. When you take showers, please keep the wound dry.
四、Out of hospital
1.Please follow instructions to visit patient clinics.
2.There will be some aural fullness, tinnitus or mild hearing
impairment because the ear is stuffed with ear packing (called
gelfoam). Hearing status will recover gradually within 3
months in generally.
3.Please use cotton sticks to wipe away the bloody discharge
from ear canal.
4.Please return to the patient clinic if there was active
bleeding or purulent discharge from the external ear canal.
5.Please pay attention to following:
(1)Do not swim, dive, or take airplane within 3 months after the
operation.
(2)Patients who received ossicular chain surgery should avoid
jumping or active exercise within 3 months after the
operation.
(3)Wash your hands frequently and avoid contact with sick people
(such as flu)to avoid infection.
