Aquatics III Course Syllabus

Course Description:

Aquatics III is a course designed for the advanced swimmer. The course consists of instructional components of the American Red Cross Health and Safety Courses.

Course topics:

  1. Review all major strokes
  2. Develop swim fitness.
  3. American Red Cross courses:
  4. CPR:PR/AED, LGT Re-cert
  5. Lifeguard Management
  6. Pool Operator ( If enough Students in Class)

Course Objectives:

The student will learn and practice skills to become certified in the various ARC courses. The student must maintain a high level of fitness and knowledge to complete the skills required for certification. The student will read texts and have written homework, exams and quizzes to ensure accurate understanding of the principles and concepts taught.

Course requirements:

Student must purchase the textbooks and pay American Red Cross support fees.

Students must pass all skill tests and exams with an 80% or better in order to become certified.

Students must be prepared for class each day: Tests, swim suits and present a good attitude.

Student is to have completed homework or assignments ready to hand in at the beginning of class.

Course Expectations:

Student is expected to follow all class and school rules at all times.

Student will be dressed to swim every day unless instructed by the instructor. Student will have a white-t-shirt, blue shorts, sneakers, or flip flops each day.

Attendance is required for certification. Excessive absence will result in the student not becoming certified in some sections.

If a student is excused from class due to illness by a note, the student will be expected to observe the lesson and/or complete a written assignment.

Grading:

Students will be graded on the following criteria: Participation 25%, Tests and Quizzes 25% , Homework 10% and class work/skills 40%.

Student is required to hand in assignments on time. No assignments will be accepted late.

If a student is legally absent from school, he/she has two days to get the missed work from the instructor; failure to do so will result in a zero for that assignment.

Aquatics III textbooks and cost required:

1. ARC Support Fees $5.00

2.Lifeguard Management Packet $22.00

3. Mask if needed $13.00
