Experience
The Disney Store
Sr. Programmer Analyst
Island Pacific - Duties include analysis and design of application enhancements and user interfaces; general support for Island Pacific’s AS/400 retail accounting application. One enhancement I researched and implemented saved 70% of the run time in the nightly batch process, thus eliminating the need for an anticipated and costly hardware upgrade.
n  EDI Developed and supported of EDI partners and interfaces using Trusted Link/400 (Harbinger).
n  Data Warehouse - Support of “Retail Analytics” data warehouse using DB2/400, SQL, RPGLE and MicroStrategy BI. Management of DB2 indexes improved the weekly translate and load by 50% for each of three business units. This allowed the users access to the data warehouse by Noon on Sunday rather than 8:00 AM Monday.
Multi-media Automated Reporting System (MARS) – Using OS/400 API calls, this RPGLE application processes spooled files, converting them into PDF for paperless distribution via e-mail, the Store Intranet and OS/400 integrated file system (IFS). Designed the specification and requirements; trained the developers in the use of the API interface and managed the project to on-time completion. This application saved over four hours per day in disseminating sales reports to over 600 stores in North America and Europe.
District Alignment – With ILE RPG, HTML and net.data this application maintains the reporting hierarchy of store managers to district managers, etc. One of the application’s requirements is to instantly deliver this information upon demand, accomplished by generating dynamic web pages or comma delimited files, directly to a user’s browser or MS Excel. By replacing an MS Access application this application eliminated contract programmer consulting fees and reduced by half the staff required to maintain the database, saving the company almost $100,000 per year.
n  PAXAR PO Labels – Implementing special segments of the EDI 850 transaction this project allows the user to define the layout and content of hanging price tags for clothing goods. The interactive portion of the process helps the user with price tag layout. The automatic function extracts the purchase orders and transmits them in time to have the tags printed and attached by the manufacture to the clothing before the goods are shipped. With dual pricing on the tags this project saved $250,000 per year on items shipped to Canada, which previously had to be re-tagged in the Distribution Center.
MicroStrategy Upgrade – Facilitated the software and server upgrade of this database Business Intelligence product to release 7.1. Coordinated the conversion of all metadata and recommended size and configuration of the new servers for North America, Europe and Japan. Designed remote procedure calls to Windows batch command scripts so the iSeries could control all scheduled tasks on the Win 2000 servers.

n  Designed and developed methods for delivering AS/400 databases via web technology using net.data, RPGLE and CL/400. Implemented a menu security application to protect the AS/400 from accidental operator errors. Savings are unknown, but reruns of batch processes due to operator errors were virtually eliminated.
n  Duties included conversion of batch and on-line AS/400 applications for Year 2000 compliance using RPG, COBOL, RPGLE, and CL. Completed the conversion and documentation of 18 applications two months before the project deadline.
