General description

This atomic radio controlled watch announces both the time and date in a clear male English voice. The radio controlled feature means that it will automatically set the correct time and date when the atomic time signal is received. It also features a daily alarm function.

Orientation

Hold the watch in front of you so that the face is pointing upwards towards you. The strap with the buckle on the end should be at the top.

Front

On the front face of the watch, in the top half, is the speaker and a circular button which is pressed to announce the time and date. This button is referred to as S1.

Just below the speaker and button is a smooth rectangular area which is the LCD display screen.

Back

The back of the watch is the metal battery cover.

Left edge

Hold the watch in the same position as indicated above. On the left hand edge, towards the back, is a circular metal button. We’ll refer to this button as S4 and it’s used to announce and display the alarm as well as used to set the alarm.

Right edge

Along the right edge are a further two circular metal buttons. The one closest to you (parallel to the LCD display) is S3, which is used to set the minute when required.

The button towards the back is S2 and is used to set the hour when required.

Getting started

Activating the battery

Your watch will arrive with the battery in sleep mode.

To activate the battery, press the S1 button, which is the round button on the face of the watch, for around 2 seconds.

The watch will automatically receive a signal at 3am each morning, to maintain accurate timing.

If the watch does not set automatically, it could be due to a weak signal. Where the watch is positioned overnight could be the reason for a weak signal, and therefore it is recommended to leave it near a window in order to receive the strongest possible signal.

Important note: Keep the watch away from electrical equipment such as televisions, computers and some metallic objects, as these may affect the radio signal.

Using the product

Button functions

  • Press once to announce the time
  • Press twice to announce the date
  • Press three times to announce the alarm time
  • Press four times to announce the reception status
  • Press and hold to manually search for the radio signal

S2 (right hand edge, furthest away from you)

  • Set the hour

S3 (right hand edge, closest to you)

  • Set the minute

S4 (left hand edge)

  • Announce and display the alarm for 30 seconds (short press)
  • Set the alarm (press and hold for a few seconds)

Set time zone

Hold the S2 button while the watch is in the normal running time mode for more than 3 seconds until the watch says the current Country setting. The watch should say UK when you first receive it. If it doesn’t say “UK”, follow the next step.

Now push S1 one by one to select either: USA Pacific, USA Mountain, USA, Central, USA Eastern, and UK. When you hear “UK”, press S2 to confirm the selection. After the communication, the watch will show the local time of the country that you have selected.

Automatic time settings

Your watch receives the atomic clock signal automatically at 3am each morning. After receiving the signal, it will show the official local time. Everything is done automatically, however, your watch can be manually set if required (Refer to the ‘Manually setting the time’ section).

At night, you should position the watch face down on a flat surface near a window. If your watch is unable to make contact with the radio signal, it will continue to function in the same way as a standard watch. The time will then be corrected the next time your watch receives the automatic signal.

Ensure that the overnight position of the watch is at least six feet away from any household electrical appliances as they could interfere with the signal. Never let metal (including the clasp on the watch strap) come into contact with the back of the watch as it will affect the signal

Manual signal reception

Place the watch on a table near a window to manually obtain a signal reception. It is recommended that the watch should be left by a window to receive the strongest possible signal. Place the watch on its side, out of direct sunlight.

Press and hold the S1 button until the LCD display shows a blinking antenna strength icon for 10 seconds with the country code (USA = minus 8, minus 7, minus 6 or minus 5 (P, M, C or E), UK = +00, Germany = +01).

The watch will take between five and 14 minutes to pick up the signal.

Wait until it has finished the signal receiving procedure then press the S1 button three times.

If the reception was successful, a small antenna icon will be displayed and the watch will speak “country name” followed by “time updated”. If the reception failed, the watch will speak“country name” followed by “time not updated”.

Reception status check

There is a small radio tower icon on the LCD display indicating the signal reception of the watch. When the icon is visible, the watch was able to update the signal in the last 24 hours. When it is not there, it has been unable to pick up the signal.

You can also check the reception status by pressing button S1 four times.

If the reception was successful, the watch will say “country name” followed by “time updated”. If the reception failed the watch will say “country name” followed by “time not updated”.

In some poor reception areas, the signal may not update every night. Try moving the watch to a new location.

Note: The watch is very accurate and can miss a few nights of updating without any serious loss of accuracy.

Set daily alarm

Press and hold the S4 button until the LCD displays the flashing alarm time and the watch will emit a small beep.

Press S2 to set the hour. Keep pressing the button until the correct hour is announced.

Press S3 to set the minute. Keep pressing the button until the correct minute is reached.

When you have entered the correct time, press the S4 button to confirm the alarm.Alternatively, your watch will confirm your new alarm after one minute.

  • The alarm will beep for 30 seconds when the alarm time goes off. You can turn off the alarm by pressing any button
  • The alarm is a daily alarm, so when you turn off the beeping, the same alarm will sound the next day
  • To turn off the daily alarm, follow the instructions in the ‘Alarm on/off’ section
  • Each time you stop the beep, the watch will announce the alarm time.

Alarm on/off

Press and hold the S4 button until the LCD display displays the flashing alarm time and the watch emits a beep.

Press S1 to turn the alarm icon on and off

Press S4 to confirm. The watch will beep and exit into real time mode

When the alarm is confirmed as off, the watch will say alarm off.

Manually setting the time

If there is no radio signal available, you can set the time manually.

Setting the hour

  • Press the S2 button once
  • The LCD will display the hour and minutes flashing
  • Press the S1 button repeatedly to set the correct hour
  • Press the S2 button to confirm the new hour

Setting the minutes

  • Press the S3 button once
  • The LCD will display the hour and minutes flashing
  • Press the S1 button repeatedly to set the correct minutes
  • Press the S3 button to confirm the new minutes.

Note: If you accidentally set the time, you can bring the watch back to local time by following the instructions for manual signal reception, or just place near a window overnight to sync with the atomic radio controlled time.

12 hour mode

UK and USA version is preset to 12 hour mode.

Low battery indication

When the battery is low, the LCD display will show a blinking battery low icon. The voice, signal reception and backlight functions will not operate. These will return to normal when the battery has been replaced.

Replacing the battery

This watch uses a CR2032 type battery. To avoid any damage to the watch, only a trained watch specialist should replace the battery.

When the battery has been replaced, you will need to carry out the following in order for it to function again:

  • You will need to set the time zone. See ‘set time zone’ section
  • Position the watch face down on a flat surface near a window
  • The watch will start to update its first signal and will continue to update for 24 hours if the first signal reception was not successful
  • After receiving a valid time signal, the watch will display the correct time

Hints and Tips

Troubleshooting

Watch not receiving a time signal – possible causes:

  • Watch not placed near a window
  • Watch not placed face down
  • Watch placed on its side
  • Outside the radio signal area
  • Being in a built up area
  • Metal objects blocking the radio signal
  • Interference form a computer monitor or TV

Place the watch near a window, as this received the best reception. Try different windows in the house to see which is best. You can test this using the reception status test which was described earlier. Please note that the reception is always better at night

If your watch is unable to make contact with the radio signal, it will continue to function in the same way as a standard watch. The time will then be corrected the next time your watch received a signal.
