BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Location: Parkdale (Queen & Dufferin)

The Parkdale Community Health Centre (the “Centre”) works with the community, in all of its diversity, to address its health related needs through a combination of community development and action, the delivery of primary health care, counselling, advocacy and health promotion.

The Centre is welcoming and accessible to the Parkdale community, giving priority to individuals and groups who encounter barriers to health services. The centre provides programs and services based on community needs and the determinants of health, especially poverty, racism, violence and systemic discrimination.

The Centre is a not-for-profit corporation and also is a registered charitable organization.

The Parkdale Community Health Centre Board of Directors is a 12-member community board working in a policy governance model. We are currently seeking to fill board vacancies. The term of a Board Member is approximately three years.

Responsibilities:

·  Attend monthly Board Meetings on the last Tuesday of the month and the Annual General Meeting;

·  Participate in at least one board committee, which includes occasional meetings;

·  Attend the annual board orientation and additional occasional planning sessions (typically held on weekends);

·  Determine policies and procedures;

·  Ensure the organization adheres to its mission, vision and values

·  Develop the organizational aims (ends statements) and monitor their achievement through organizational products, effects, benefits, outcomes, recipients, and their relative worth;

·  Create constraints on executive authority (executive limitations) which establish the prudent and ethical boundaries within which all executive activity and decisions must take place

·  Specify how the Board conceives, carries out and monitors its own task of the governance process

·  Monitor how power is delegated and its proper use including the Board-Executive Director relationship, the Executive Director role, authority, and accountability.

Qualifications:

·  Have lived experience or understanding of oppression, anti-harassment, anti-discrimination and anti-racism or is a member of the priority populations and other populations served by PCHC

·  Have skills or knowledge in any of the following areas:

·  communication

·  organizational governance and development

·  policy development

·  advocacy

·  financing

·  facilitation skills

·  health care management

·  health care analytics

·  health care quality improvement

·  health care sector

·  fundraising

·  Want to make a valuable contribution to improve the health and quality of life for the people who live in the Parkdale community

·  Having worked with partnering organizations of PCHC or potential partnering organizations is an asset

·  Previous policy governance board experience is helpful, but not required
