NO RUNNERS ON BASE
PLATE UMPIRE / BASE UMPIRE
Fair and Foul /
  • Any batted ball that settles or is touched between home and first base
  • All batted balls down third base line

  • All batted balls beyond front edge of first base to RF foul pole including balls that hit first base

Catch or No Catch /
  • All routine fly balls to outfield
  • All pop ups to infield with fielder facing the PU
  • All line drives except for first or second baseman going toward BU in Position A
/
  • Trouble balls from center field to right field line
  • Any line drive to first or second baseman when fielder is facing or coming toward the BU

Touch of Bases and
Plays on Batter - Runner /
  • Touches and calls at first,second and third when BU goes out on trouble ballor when BU is forced into foul territory on a play at first base.
  • Calls in first 45 ft to first base
  • All calls on batter – runner lane interference
  • Help on pulled foot or swipe tag if asked by BU

  • Touches and calls at first,second and third when not going out on trouble ball
  • Call & touch at home after going out on trouble ball
  • Call - last 45 feet to first base except for BR lane interference
  • Swipe tag or pulled foot at first base – can ask PU

Out of Play /
  • Any ball going out of play in outfield unless BU goes out on trouble ball
  • Any ball thrown back into infield

Plays Between Home and First /
  • All interference calls in batter –runner’s lane

Calls on plays at first, second and third bases /

  • Runners on first and third; base hit; watches R3 score and then takes R1 on play at third
  • Runners on first and second; fly ball caught for first or second out; both runners tag up; PU has runner going into third; BU has runner going into second
  • Runner on second, less than two outs, BU takes BR play at first; PU takes R2 trying to go to third

Timing Play /
  • Stays at home plate; lines up plate and out to determine if run scores
