A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor and loving memory of Valorie L. Tanner.

WHEREAS, Valorie L. Tanner was born in Toronto, Canada, the daughter of the late Frank G. and Juliana Sokoloski Craig; and

WHEREAS, Valorie Tanner attended the University of Michigan and earned a teaching degree from Eastern Michigan University. She was a middle and high school teacher for nine years, and in that capacity she created a school program that helped local teachers motivate their students; and

WHEREAS, in 1989, Valorie Tanner and her beloved husband, Vince, opened their first two McDonald's franchises in Ohio County, Kentucky. Tanner Management, the business Valorie and Vince began together, is headquartered in Hartford, Kentucky. Through years of hard work and dedication, the Tanners expanded their venture, and Tanner Management now operates eight McDonald's in six Kentucky counties; and

WHEREAS, Valorie Tanner was a proud community activist. She was involved in the Ohio County Chamber of Commerce and served as that organization's Treasurer. She was also a member of Together We Care, the Special Friends Mentoring Program, the Ohio County Early Childhood Council, the Ohio County Health Coalition, and the Ohio County Civitan Club. The Tanners were deeply concerned about Ohio County youth, a cause that led them to purchase the Beaver Dam Post Office and transform it into the Together We Care headquarters; and

WHEREAS, Valorie Tanner is survived by her husband, Vincent C. Tanner; her son, John V. Tanner; her daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth A. Tanner and her husband Shane Stewart, and Amy C. Tanner and her husband Derek Wells; and her sisters, Janice (Dennis) DeMeritt and Roberta (Keith) Beverly; and

WHEREAS, Valorie Tanner departed this earthly life on February 19, 2011, and this Honorable Body stands in mourning for the loss of a woman who lived her life to its fullest and who heeded the call to service that so many fail to hear;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its most profound sense of sorrow and proffers its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Valorie L. Tanner.

âSection 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Valorie L. Tanner.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Representative Tommy Thompson for delivery to the family.
