IMPORTANT GENERAL INFORMATION

If you have medical insurance, it is always good to contact the insurance company first to find out if you have mental health coverage, and if you do, is there a restricted list of providers that you have to use. Generally speaking the mental health benefit is limited to a certain number of visits each year, and generally speaking insurance covers about half the expense. You can anticipate the expense of counseling to run from $75 -$150 per hour depending on who you see and their credentials and experience.

Licensed psychologists, social workers, and counselors do counseling. Generally psychiatrist do not do counseling. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who prescribe medications and usually refer the client for counseling.
